Insideous carb addiction
After being on either Percocet of Vicadin for the past year or more, I've
become dependent and my doc has me going to a chemical dependency program for people like me. I'm still in need of the pain meds but will soon need (and want) to stop taking those meds. I have an appointment this Thursday with a doc and an intake. I'm scheduled to start back to work on Monday and told them so. They asked if I would be willing to take more time off of work if necessary for the drug thing. I said yes. What immediately popped into my head was "Well, I shouldn't try and cut out carbs now. It will be too much to do both at the same time and I'll not succeed in either." I think this is a rationalization for eating carbs. I've had no experience with this kind of thing so I don't know what to expect, but I have heard that alcoholics and drug addicts substitute sugar when recovering. Does anyone have any knowledge of this? Am I going to crave sugar as they reduce the meds? I know this is a weird subject but I would really appreciate any thoughts the group might have. TIA -- Bear- Grrrrrrrrrrrr ) |

oh yeah, you asked about me making sausage. I do make different types of
breakfast sausage. I am out right now, due to me not finding pork butt on sale anywhere. Thanks for the recipes. I haven't made them yet, but this winter will be sausage making time. Thanks, Curt |

TIA I wish you the best. My suggestion is that IF you decide to reduce both the carbs and the medicine all at the same time..... be prepared for having bitten off more than you or anyone can chew. In other words, if the quitting everything fails, don't take it as a personal failure which cuts your respect for yourself. You are probably better off to take one giant step at a time and get the meds off your back. Then, flush with success, you can take on the carbs knowing that you can succeed at getting rid of monkeys on your back. Jim -- ................................ Keepsake gift for young girls. Thanks Jim.
I'm going to do that - pretty much. Rather than re-starting induction I'm going to cut back on the carbs, lurk on the NG and get off the meds. The last sentence of your post really grabbed me. Thanks so much. -- Bear- Grrrrrrrrrrrr ) "jbuch" wrote in message ... I wish you the best. "Bear" wrote in message ink.net... Thanks Lynne. I was feeling stupid about even posting this problem. I just didn't realize what a problem this was going to be. I've decided to cut carbs but not try anything drastic. I'll be lurking and you just may get my a venting email. Especially since you've been through spine surgery. Thanks so much for caring Hugs, Bear Bear, please don't feel stupid! There's NO reason to. Write me any ole time, I'm on a lot since I have a small business that requires me to spend a lot of time at the computer. I don't think my surgery is likely comperable, but I'm sure happy to commiserateGGG Mine was only one disk, C-5 C-6. Did you have more than one fused? I think you're taking the right tactic as far as low carb, take it easy on yourself and just start cutting out the crap. I ate whatever my body wanted after my fusion, oddly enough Jello was the biggieLOL NO idea why, but that's what I wanted, so that's what I ate. I also craved cereal. At any rate, watch out for the junk, but otherwise, give your body what it's asking for while you heal. You can do this! Hugs Lynne A |
