One of the things I did lately was that I went bowling for the first time in a long time. And, well, I hurt myself. I thought working out made me stronger and I wouldn't get hurt, but apparently bowling uses muscles that don't get used much in the rest of my life. For those of you who are familiar with bowling, I try to get down as low as possible for my release, with my left leg in front and my right crossed behind me. But I slipped at just the wrong moment and my left leg kind of jutted out to the right, and I twisted my ankle, and I felt pretty much like I wrenched my whole body. My left butt cheek hurts, and there's a sort of ring of pain all the way around the very top of my thigh, and my right shoulder, shoulder blade, and side of my neck are pretty sore too. Thankfully my ankle feels just a little sore, but it's ok. Anyway, I skipped doing the weight machines today because I was still so sore, but now I wonder if maybe I should have done them anyway, that maybe it would help? How do you know what kind of pain will be helped by working out and what kind will get worse? I would suggest stretching. Usually when I feel injured, or especially when I have super tight sore muscles that feel like they hurt to bad to work out, I do yoga. Afterwards, I generally feel much better. Actually, just yesteday my thighs felt rock hard from working out earlier, and they hurt when I walked, and hurt when I sat or stood... and going up stairs was super painful. My muscles were just too tight. Immediately after some stretching, I felt much better. Then my muscles just felt that nice workout/tired feeling instead of the tight pain feeling. -- Spring LC since 1/1/04 260/208/170 http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/spr...=/55b8&.src=ph Size: 24W / 14 / 10 |
