Default Day 9 of 100 Days

Got on my scale about 45 minutes ago (I've been reading the paper with
the cat peering over my shoulder since) and it still said 235,
although it is now hovering and is almost below the 235 line. Well,
maybe tomorrow.

Yesterday had about 460 calories, following Denis's notion of
recording calories eaten along with what is left of calories in one's
daily allotment. That seemed to work very well for me and I'm going to
try it today as well. (I also had a lot of salt yesterday in my 460
calories and that may have contributed to my not losing any weight.
(Tomorrow night the three other people who went on a hike with me 10
days ago want to have a debriefing at a local tavern and I'm going to
stick to salad and diet coke then.)

Going up my little hill yesterday was pleasant. The rain held off
until I got back. Still no beer, no bread, etc., but it does not seem
to be much of a hardship now that I've been doing this for a while,
and also now that the weight is coming off. The discomfort in most of
these kinds of things (practicing self-control) is temporary and (I
think for me) helpful.

My goal today is again 800 calories taken in. (If I go below it, that
will be fine with me.) And I will walk up my little hill tonight
burning up about 300 more calories. Not complicated but I like it that
way.

I hope everyone finds a weight-loss method they can live with to help
them be "good enough for long enough!" It takes a while to put on
weight and it will take a while to get it off!

Yours,

Caleb

Caleb, 460 calories is great! Thatıs the way to do it! I like Denisıs method
of planning and tracking calories. This is pretty much the foundation of
what Iım doing. I learn how many calories Iım gonna do each day by praying

500. But I seem to be stuck at 209 lbs. Maybe I should get my goddess a new
candle.

Lazy -- Praying to the lottery good indeed is wise and noble! I myself
have never knealt at the foot of this august deity. (Our wise and
insightful mailman has informed us that lotteries are taxes on the
mathematically challenged, but I cannot believe this -- for surely the
beneficent and farsighted public servants we have elected would not
have instituted such a thing. Actually, your humble servant has long
thought of a bumper sticker, "Never bought a state lottery ticket --
hope I never do!")

But this is a distraction to my major point -- that is, I find it
important to bow to the gods that inhabit the scales that they may be
kind and allow the tendrils of the gravity wells which course all
around me to release their grip on me during the early morning
weighing process.

BTW, good luck on the lottery! Tell us what kind of cabin cruiser
you're getting if you hit the big jackpot!

Yours,

Caleb

Oh! dear, dear, dear. I've been neglecting my scales goddess. That's clearly
my whole problem. I will set up some more candles and read her oracles by
the light of these. This will surely help.

My lottery ticket goddess tells me not to purchase tickets with the thought
of personal enrichment but instead because doing so will certainly make
someone else, somewhere, very happy. So that's what I do.

Yeah, sure,
Lazy

Black Cat -- Thanks for your comments!

About daily weighing -- I use a a balance beam scale each morning, and
when I get on it, I only move the indicator it shows a lower weight.
That is, I am not interested in seeing how much more water weight,
etc., I have gained in the course of a night. For me this method
preserves my motivation (and I know that if I am on a low-calorie
diet, the weight will come off). One problem with regular scales is
that they automatically show you how much you weigh, but I find that
to be demotivating -- too much "noise" in such a system. With this
balance beam approach, I can steadily track the lower end of the
"bubble" going down as the weight comes off.

Probably not for everyone, but it seems to work well for me. (Kind of
related to my not wanting to know what time it is in the middle of the
night. Some information is not good for me to have and I don't have
much difficulty in compartmentalizing the data into things I want to
know and things I don't want to know.)

Again, thanks for your kind comments!

Yours,

Caleb

Hey, don't weigh yourself everyday. No good.

BTW, you're doing great!

I am glad to see your results, Caleb. And I can only admire your
efforts. In my case I have spent everything I had on my food budget
(1500 calories) for today, and it's not even 5PM! It's all right,
though. I always make an exception for a little extra: a glass of milk
that calms down my stomach. Let's keep working together, my friends.
