Default Day 15 of 100 Days

Day 15 and lost another pound – I'm at 229 this morning.

So, seven pounds gone.

Had more calories yesterday than I should have – about 1500. But also
had a nice 300 calorie stroll up our hill so that brought the total
down to about 1200 calories. Still too many and I will be better
today.

I'm reminded oftentimes of the Aesop's fable of the frog that is
placed in a pot of water and the water is placed on a fire. Before the
frog knows it, he is boiled to death and this is because the water is
heated so gradually, the frog is not aware of the change in
temperature. But had the frog being placed in the pot when the water
was hot, it would have immediately jumped out. I think weight gain
(and many other negative behaviors) are like this too, with
incremental bad changes occurring, but taking place so slowly that we
are unaware of them. For most things, there is no "shining bright
line" which separates good behavior from bad behavior and we try to
bring about such a separation ourselves.

Atkins separates carbohydrates, and thereby eliminates a huge class of
extra-calorie foods. Calorie restriction diets also separate good [low
calorie] approaches from others. Vegetarians, people who believe in
multiple small meals, etc., all are trying to be guided by their own
"shining bright line."

I'm off to work in a few minutes. Instead of doing a lot of paperwork
yesterday, I helped my far better half lay linoleum (now called vinyl
sheets) and discovered that I'm going to have to move a water outlet
to get the new toilet to work. Interesting problems and something to
do over the next several nights.

I hope everyone has a very successful and happy week and month ahead!

On! ON!

Yours,

Caleb
