Default Atkins fat question

Can someone tell me what the acceptable ranges of fat are to be
considered on the Atkins diet?

For example, assuming carbohydrates consist only of acceptable items
and limits according to Atkins, are the following considered to be
part of an Atkisn diet.

1. Eating 3500 or more calories of any kind of fat (i.e. eat all the
fat, any kind of fat, that you want)

2. Eating 3500 or more calories of lean protein (fish, boneless
chicken) and no other fat

3. Eating 1500 - 2500 calories of mostly lean meat (boneless chicken
and fish), and 2 or 3 tablespoons of healthy fat (fish, flax, olive
oil, for example)

4. Eating 1500 - 2500 calories of lean protein (fish and boneless
chicken) - no other fat

5. Eating 1000 calories of lean protein (boneless chicken and fish),
no other fat

I guess the question is how much fat is necessary to be considered on
the ATkins diet, vs. a high protein diet, which many feel can
accomplish the same thing with less health risks, or which can help
lose weight faster.

I ask this question because when talking to people on Atkins, there
seems to be a wide variation of fat and calorie intake to the point
that I wonder if any studies are only relevant if they pertain to
variations of the diet, vs. the diet overall.

Thanks.

Mike

The usual formula is: subtract however many carbs (after induction) you
can safely eat and still lose weight on (found thru doing the process),
and subtract however many grams protien you need to maintain your
current lean muscle (suggested by various sources as .6 times current
lbm and up to .9 --perhaps more I don't know since I'm not interested
times current lbm for athletes), and the rest as quality fats (olive,
nuts, avacados etc). This varies from person to person and with each
person over the course of their weight loss plan, but generally works
out to be in the vicinity of 20% protien, 5% carbs, 75% fat in the
begining, down to 20% protien, 40% fat, 40% carbs by the time the dieter
reaches maintenence, roughly speaking.

I guess the question is how much fat is necessary to be considered on

However much you need to make up the calories you need to stay above
your bmr but below your caloric need for maintenence at your current
weight (bmr+activity calories) after calculating protien and carb needs.
There few hard and fast rules-- everything has a variable, and every
statistic has an outlier.

The "diet" (actually a process for tweaking the standard lowcarb way of
eating to optimize it for your personal best result) is nothing but
variations, so studies would have to be (done correctly) a overall
examination.
