Default Anything wrong with using caffeine as an appetite suppresant?

Caffeine has been very helpful in my weight loss. I'll usually go to
Starbucks and get a four-shot venti iced breve latte after lunch. The
caffeine will pretty much keep me satiated for the rest of the day. Come
time for dinner, I'm not REAL hungry, so I'll eat a small portion and be
fine.

The drink itself has 15 net grams of carbs (breve means half&half), and I'll
usually have another 20-30 grams per day in food.

So the question is, is there anything wrong with that? Other than I might
get addicted to caffeine?

if it works for you, why bother with someone's approval? YMMV is what it's
all about. For *me* this would mean way too many carbs I could spend on
healthy veggies instead of milk, but if you are losing weight and feeling
fine, just go for it. Just don't skip the veggies (you didn't specify how
you get the rest of your carbs)

Grapefruits, drinking water, etc etc, and your coffee, may belong to
this category.

interesting. I've heard of the grapefruit diet, but don't really know
anything about it.

Caffeine is a known appetite suppresant, and it works wonders on me. I've
already lost 50 lbs on low carb (245 to 195, male, 6'0", 26 years old), but
the caffeine has been very helpful to keep my appetite down from 1 pm to 8
pm...

does caffeine raise blood pressure? I just went for a check up and BP and
blood analysis are both great.

I guess, if it works and your blood pressure is fine, you can keep
using it.

The history of dieting is replete with detrutus of "diet aids" that
give great hopes, sell books, make one lose 3-4 lbs and stop working.

Grapefruits, drinking water, etc etc, and your coffee, may belong to
this category.

If you ask, Starbucks will substitute a mixture of heavy cream and
water for the half & half, and equal for sugar ... leaving you with 3
or 4 carbs.

really! That's good to know. Do you know what kind of mixture to use?
i.e., what proportion cream and water?

I am on low carb diet and I drink lots of green tea (sometimes black)
Both are very helpful healthwise regarding blood pressure, chollestrol,
cancer prevention, ..etc. Here is a link in that details the great
benefits of tea despite the caffine contents:

http://green-tea-benefit.com/

Atkins.com claims caffine can make you crave sugar because it
drops your blood sugar level. So they recommend avoiding it.

I havn't had any problems intaking 5 cups of green tea daily (2 with
my breakfast).

I'd avoid coffee.
