In case people want to read the transcript for the show in which Alton
Brown uses the staples, click on the transcript link on this page:

Here's a site with some material culled from his book I'm Just Here

Google Alton Brown popcorn staple if you want to see that as HTML

According to FitDay, one cup of air-popped unbuttered popcorn has 5g net
carbs and 31 calories. It becomes high-carb if you don't stop at one cup.

LOL! That would certainly encourage you to eat less.

A vendor at my local farmer's market sells popcorn on the cob.

You put one of the smallish cobs (about 4 inches) into a plain brown
(lunch-sized) paper bag, fold over the top two times, and microwave.

Microwaving takes about 2 min. in my microwave, but YMMV. Not all the
kernels have popped at that 2 min. point, although most of them have,
but I can't keep microwaving the cob longer, as the corn that's
already popped will start to singe at about the 2 min point.

I was suprised the first time I tried it to see that such a small cob
made so much popcorn. Even given the fact that not all of the kernels
had popped, almost the entire bag was filled. Enough for at least two
moderate servings. And, both I and my teenager think the popcorn
tastes really good.

Although no staples are used to close the bag, the folded top stays
closed; so far, no popped corn has escaped the confines of the bag
during microwaving.

So...perhaps staples aren't even needed to close the bag when popping
regular popcorn.

Okay, I actually called Popcorn Factory the other day (shut.up!) and was told
that their regular buttered popcorn had 6g of carbs per cup serving. I don't
know about transfats, didn't ask. That was the same amount that I found in my
SBD carb counter guide. I was actually thinking of having the popcorn as a
"side dish" with dinner (you know, instead of fries)....
