Default Which Supplements and Why?

Last year, I remember taking a zillion supplements, but now I don't
remenber the reason for taking most of them. These are the ones I
remember, but don't know why I took them:

Multi-Vitamin/Mineral (this one I understand))
Chromium Picolinate (is this the one that's banned in Great
Brittain?)
Flax Oil
Fish Oil (you couldn't pay me enough to use that again)
B-Complex (for TOM?)
Evening Primrose Oil (same reason?)
L-Gluta-something
Calcium-Magnesium (should zinc be included in this?)
Vitamin C

There may have been others, but these are the ones I remember.

Thanks for your help!

Damsel,

Here are the supplements I take:

1. One Source Senior Multi vitamin. NO IRON. People with diabetes should
avoid iron.
2. Natural Vitamin E
3. Calcium/magnesium/zinc (but not always. If I'm eating a lot of yogurt and
cheese I tend to go easy on this)
4. B12/B6/Folic Acid. I go on and off this stuff. If I'm not eating any
wheat I try to remember to take it.

I'm testing Cinnamon (2 tsp per day.) Interesting studies lately show it
might help lower blood sugar.
I've tested ALA and EPO, didn't see anything good, felt kind of depressed
and crappy while taking them.

Chromium is way overhyped and only helps if you are deficient in chromium
which is rare in the US. The picolinate is associated with heightened
cancer risk.

Flax oil messes up my mood. I have flax cereal occasionally.

L-glutamine didn't do anything I could notice.

Melantonin helps me sleep and I take it sometimes because my sleep is so
interrupted I never get enough and that is associated with insulin
resistance, but it does push up my fasting blood sugar a bit.

I take vitamins A&D, C&E (I classify them that way because those are
the combinations of the tablets) and the B vitamin folate. According
to fitday, I get more than the RDA of the other main vitamins so don't
bother taking them.

Chromium Picolinate (is this the one that's banned in Great
Brittain?)

No, I can buy that, and I sometimes remember to take it. It's supposed
to help you with insulin resistance, though in what way I can't quite
remember. And I have a feeling that the study which purported to
prove that has been debunked, but I don't have the details. Which is
why I'm not too bothered if I miss it.

Flax Oil
Fish Oil (you couldn't pay me enough to use that again)

I don't use either of these, but a friend used to swear by fish oil as
a help for her slightly stiff hands. My mother found it caused fatty
deposits in her liver, though, and was told not to take it any more
despite the fact that it did help her arthritis.

B-Complex (for TOM?)
Evening Primrose Oil (same reason?)

Yes, I've a friend (a different one to the one above) who swears by
both of these. I tried them and found that Evening Primrose Oil in
particular made my PMS much worse - I was a tearful wreck on it,
completely unable to do normal things like get out of bed. Not
surprisingly, I stopped taking it PDQ.

L-Gluta-something

L-Glutamine. It's supposed to help with cravings, I think.

Calcium-Magnesium (should zinc be included in this?)

I take this, too.

And I also take L-Carnitine, which seems to help me lose faster,
though I could be imagining that. And I also take potassium, and
needed it at the start of this WOE. I'm not so sure that it's doing
much now, but I carry on with it.

I was told to take B Complex vitamins when I quit smoking.
It has something to do with your overall sense of well being
and making you calm. Don't know if it had anything to do
with my success at quitting or not, but who cares. I no
longer smoke : )

Have you ever had a sleep study done for apnea?

Sleepy (The nick was chosen due to *my* apnea problem)
