Consider cutting back on the amount of troll in your diet. Trolls
are fattening.

Ok- I have been lurking for quite a while- I am suspecting that my
thyroid is to blame. This is my menu for 2 weeks to the T!
breakfast- 2 scrambled eggs with Pam on 1 slice whole wheat tst with 1
tsp mayo
snack- 1 whey protein shake with water
lunch- 2 cups lettuce with 1-2 hard boiled eggs and sometimes a can of
tuna then I dunk then lettuce into olive oil with spices dressing
snack- another shake mixed with water ( from GNC)
dinner - chicken breast with 1 cup veggies and maybe 1/2 cup wild or
brown rice.

I drink almost 1 gallon water a day and have 2 cuos coffee with 2
splenda packets.
During the 2 weeks I have had about 3 mixed drinks which were bacardi
and diet coke
I have gained 10 pounds!!!!!

What is going on with my body

I think you could be on to something. Are you taking any meds? My
doc's recently dc'd 2 of mine and reduced the dose of another (none
known to cause weight gain or insulin resistance and I dropped 10
pounds in nothing flat). Before that, my inability to lose that last
10 pounds had me thinking about metabolism, too. I read a bunch of
books about it and was not encouraged. Try the basic test for low
metabolism. Keep a mercury (if you can find one) thermometer by your
bed. For 5 to 7 days, when you wake up, stick the thermometer under
your arm and take your temperature (I forget how long you keep it
there, but Google will know). Do not get out of bed first, just take
your temperature. If you can't find a mercury thermometer, just take
your temp with a digital one under your tongue. A consistantly low
(below 97) temp indicates thyroid problems that sometimes don't even
show up on standard blood tests. If yours is low, go to an endo armed
with this evidence. If not, then something else is going on.

Is there a possibility you could have PCOS? Do you having any symptoms
of Cushing's Syndrome or Cushing's Disease? If you do take meds, have
any new ones been added or dosages increased? At the very least, I
would try adding a calcium supplement.

Like you, I don't follow any specific low carb program and even though
I avoid brown rice and wheat bread (because in my diabetic body they
act like fast carbs and shoot up my blood sugar) I do occasionally
weaken and eat stuff like Stove Top Stuffing without gaining. The kind
of gain you have experienced is not normal. At the very least, you
should have held your own. Low cal and low carb both work. It's just
that many people find low carb more satisfying. The combination of the
two is often needed by people who are close to goal.

You're hardly eating anything at all. Now, this is the same thing I've
done, but it doesn't mean it's a good thing.

Now, I'm freaked by weight gain, so keep that in mind. But if I'd
eaten what you've eaten in the past two weeks and GAINED ten pounds,
I'd be at the doctor's office frantic for every test she could do.

This is strictly my advice, but unless you're really fooling yourself
about what you're eating, I'd make a doctor's appointment ASAP. Even
if the doc is anti-low carb, you can point out that you've eaten only
lean meats and healthy fish with omega-3's and fibrous vegies. Or,
don't even call it a low carb diet. It's also low cal. I once had a
doc tell me that if I ate nothing but ice cream, but stayed under a
certain level of calories, I'd lose weight. He said it wouldn't be
healthy, but I'd get thin.

Don't beat yourself up. You came here for help, and from the posts so
far, you didn't get much. Try a doc and see what happens.

Oh, and BTW, don't worry about the booze. I drink like a fish, and,
yes, I know that the alcohol gets burned first, but for me it's a
staple . I've still lost 53 pounds and am at goal. The little bit
you drank sure won't cause weight gain!

Hope for your sake this all gets resolved. I've been where you are
when I was taking prednisone. It's a very frustrating and upsetting
experience. You think it's your own fault, but it's not. Keep at the
low carbing. Any of the conditions I mentioned before are greatly
helped by low carb, but low carb isn't a miracle. Sometimes in the
face of other problems, the best it can do is slow down weight gain.

Best,

Mary Sue

Thanks

The middle number should be 220 - to show the 10 pound gain.

You might want to try a low carb diet.
