The induction phase of Atkins is 20 grams of carbs per day....when you count
carbs you don't have to count calories. I'll bet you'll lose weight faster
with the low carb way.

Make sure you don't eat so few calories that your body goes into
"starvation mode" and slows its metabolism.

Dang...wrong word...so I'll take it as "The full crew of officers and
enlisted personnel required to run a ship". (Def.#5 in Yahoo's dictionary)

Not entirely true Sue. It all depends on your weight loss goal. If you
have a lot of weight to lose, don't bother counting. And you still have
to take in enough food to fuel your basic body functions such as
breathing, cell repair, blinking, movement ...

BUT

If your goal is lower then you do need to consider it. From what I've
read - I didn't say this, but it IS logical. People with less weight to
lose GENERALLY do not suffer the sugar or carb addictions that other's
might. It's been said, that eating habits aren't so far off the mark
that smaller tweaks will make the necessary changes for them.

I'm not saying this is the case all the time. it's a YMMV thing. But
it is logical.

Just for an example - When I started cutting carbs and finally got the
hang of it, I went from top carb intake of 165g to 100g to 20g. I did
that over a period of 2 1/2 weeks. I didn't suffer withdrawal and I
don't eat sugar, so I didn't have that to contend with. I did suffer
from blood sugar crashes tho, but not really headachy - least not worse
than my allergies. So withdrawal wasn't severe. More a matter of
eating MORE.

My weight gain culprit was being physically grounded for 4 months by my
dr, and not eating enough in a day.

So depending on the weight loss goals, calories MAY or MAY NOT be a
consideration.

Yeah, I was a little quick with my response, and, of course you are
right......I was just remembering reading in the Atkin's book that you
generally don't have to count calories because when you eat a lot of fat and
protein you usually don't eat as many calories because you feel satiated
sooner. It was definitely an incomplete response....but, hey, JC called me
an idiot, so I guess I'm officially initiated into the group now!

Sue
