Atkins did zero research into the low carb diet until his very last

years
when he probably needed to find some tax deductions for his crap food
empire.

In your opinion. He tried to get government funding for years, and was
refused. Studies take money. You got absolute proof that the man could
have funded them out of his own pocket all that time and didn't?

Who is carrying on the flame, the research into low-carb
nutrition/diet? Where is the "spiritual" hub these days?

I've no idea, but the evil widow is taking creaming off the cash.
She has redefined induction without doing any research.
All of a sudden, ultra expensive low-carb gratifiers are OK

Ahh yes, the power of the almighty dollar. I would never eat that crap, but
to each their own. I eat whole foods, not processed junk. Oh well, it
really makes the Atkins way of life seem like all the others. My signature
used to say Started Atkins.....now it says started low carb instead. I just
can't say Atkins anymore due to all the crap products they are pushing. I
don't think that was the original idea. Even in the book it states to eat
whole foods.

I loved those bars, but I don't buy them anymore. They sort of make me
sick to think about them now due to a bad aftertaste with some of that
stuff. I find the same thing happening with Splenda leaving a bad taste,
but not Equal. Very strange.

I agree with you, Curt, about the phony phood and the Atkins Marketing
Machine. I just don't identify them with the good doctor... I read his

book
long before the Marketing Machine existed. Seems to me you are

permanently
trying to change your eating habits... and who could permanently eat

that
phony phood?

"Atkins Bars for Life"? Ptah! Blech!... I don't think so :-)

You mean apart from testing it on his cardiac patients and honing it on all
the center's other patients for 30 years?

As revek pointed out, he tried unsuccessfully to get funding for proper
research studies repeatedly over the years. Of course even if he had been
successful he'd still be accused of bias for funding/carrying out the
studies himself.

He funded some studies near the end, presumably thru Atkins Nutritionals,
since a corporation has deeper pockets. He got lambasted for bias -- by the
exact same people who carped about his not doing any studies earlier.

Which is exactly what did happen with the study he funded at Duke University
in the last few years.

This business about him passing on having himself autopsied is just plain
unfair. Also, what you do know about his cardiomyopathy?
