Default Day 7, 2008

250/244/200
August 24, 2006
Day 7 of 100 days. Still 6 pounds gone.

I got on my scale this morning and was still at 244 pounds. Too bad!
I'm sure that within several days, I will be below that.

Had a few more calories yesterday that I should have, especially as we
took my mother-in-law out to dinner. I had a veggie burger for dinner,
and overall went over my calorie target. Much, much better than I
would have been a month ago, however.

I walked up a nearby hill today wearing 10 pound ankle weights on each
ankle. 600 feet climb--a little more than that, actually, as part of
that was going downhill before continuing uphill. Absolutely excellent
exercise for the 31 minutes I was doing it! I was puffing like a steam
engine at the end of it. My far better half was kind enough to pick me
up at the top and drive me back down. (In the future I will be driving
and leaving a bike at the top and walking up to the bike, and then
taking the bike down to my car.)

Beautiful day here! About 75° and sunny. I have to go to a party
tonight and am bringing a rather high calorie dish along with me. I
hope to eat very little of it, if any, and will stick to 0 calorie
soda instead.

There is a great story about the tennis player, Bill Tilden. A
publisher wanted him to write a book on tennis and Mr. Tilden came up
with a motto, "Never change a winning game." The publisher contacted
him and said that this might be good for half a book, but there must
be more to it than that. Tilden thought and thought and then sent him
another idea, and the publisher was thrilled with that. The idea that
Mr. sent was, "Always change a losing game.”

And that reminds me of the story of the fellow who shows up for work
day after day, sweating like a fiend in the sun, and every lunchtime
opening his sandwich and swearing because it is baloney. So his friend
Joe, says, "Frank! Every day you're working hard, and you're really
sweating like mad. And then you open your lunchbox and you're getting
real mad because you see it's baloney. If you do not like baloney, why
not ask your wife to make you something else?" And then Frank says to
Joe, "What wife? I make my own sandwiches!"

If we don't like the sandwiches were finding our lunchbox that we have
prepared ourselves, maybe it's time to change the sandwiches.

I hope everyone has a great week and a great month ahead! I hope we
can all be good enough for long enough to improve our health and our
outlook!

Yours,

Caleb
