I wouldn't have guessed that from the post. What's A&W chicken?
Around here, A&W makes carbonated sodas (I kept thinking "Root beer
chicken? Cream soda chicken?")

I'd be suspicious of the A&W chicken if it has any coating. Not only could the
coating be flour based but if it is seasoned it may contain sugar.

In article , Labyrinth says...

Good morning!

Thanks so much for all the replies...you folks are just great!

Here is what I had yesterday:

Breakfast: 3 hard boiled eggs
Lunch: 1 piece A&W chicken, 3 or 4 mini carrots, 1 oz marble cheese
Supper:: 3 pieces A&W chicken
Snack: 1 boiled egg, handful of piggy puffs, few sips of Fresca pop (
I really drink very little of this aspartame stuff)

That is it for the whole day.....not much carbs there. Would the skin
of the chicken make any difference I wonder.

I wonder if that is maybe the problem as the last few days I have cut
way back because of my fear of high blood sugars.

I was eating the Atkins bars until the weekend and then I figured I
would cut them out and see if my blood sugars dropped but it doesn't
seemed to have made a difference.

I also work out on the treadmill - 30 minutes, 5X a week and a small
amount of weight lifting.

A&W (at least in our area) used to server "Chubby Chicken" many years back.
They stopped serving the chicken for about 10-15 years, and have now
recently started serving it again.

It is deep fried chicken, similar to KFC. But I have never seen ANY fried
chicken that isn't dredged in flour before cooking to give it a nice crusty
skin. I could be wrong though. I have been avoiding the skin on the rare
occasions we eat out there...but I miss it.

Okay

Lunch: 1 piece A&W chicken, 3 or 4 mini carrots, 1 oz marble
cheese

The chicken - coating probably contains a flour base, likely a
source of carbs. Try baked or roasted chicken
without the coating. Or remove and discard the skin.
mini Carrots - carrots are pretty high in carbs. Try a green veggie
like broccoli or celery, etc.

Supper:: 3 pieces A&W chicken

The chicken - again, see Lunch comments

Snack: 1 boiled egg, handful of piggy puffs, few sips of
Fresca pop ( I really drink very little of this aspartame
stuff)

egg - okay
piggy puffs - hopefully this is pork skins, else likely bad.
Fresca - if regular soda, bad, if sweetner probably okay.

That is it for the whole day.....not much carbs there. Would
the skin of the chicken make any difference I wonder.

It may take several days to notice the effects of dropping the bars.

a small amount of weight lifting.

Good

I would ditch the A&W chicken and prepare your own so you know exactly
what's in it. Fresh meats are better than processed since pre-made stuff
usually has starch and sugar. I would also eat more low GI vegetables...
romaine, cucumbers, mushrooms, avocado, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach,
etc.. I would include a serving of these veggies with each meal. Make an
omelet in the AM with spinach. Eat a chicken salad for lunch. Have some
more non-processed meat and a side of veggies for dinner. Don't forget the
fats... olive oil, butter, etc.. Drink lots and lots of water. Take a good
vitamin.

Default No wonder I haven't lost weight - A&W Chubby Chicken+carbs

Good afternoon everyone!

Now I know why I haven't lost any weight. I called our local A&W here
and they told me the following info:

Drumstick = 5 gms carb
Wing = 6 gms carb
Breast = 10 gms carb
Thigh = 9 gms carb

The chicken comes pre-breaded and in the ingredients there was no
sugar listed.

Who would have thought!!! Thanks so much for everyone's input, it is
gratefully appreciated.

If anyone has KFC count, I would greatly appreciate it.

Labyrinth,

Carrots are also sugary. Instead of carrots eat green beans, spinach,
broccoli, kale, green and yellow squash, artichokes, asparagus, cabbage, or
brussels sprouts.

If you eat out mostly (which it sounds like you do) it can be tough to find
things that aren't full of hidden sugar and flour and low on good quality
vegetables. Look for chicken caesar salads (but go easy on the dressing
which can be full of sugar. If the salads work add a little bit of dressing
and then test again.)

Grilled and broiled chicken and fish are usually okay. Rotisserie chickens
from the take-out section supermarket are great too, just don't get the
"honey barbecue" or any barbecue type. "Original," "Italian" or "Lemon
Pepper:

Hotdogs and kielbasa dogs are also fine. Eat the saurkraut. Toss the bun.

If you can get chili without beans, it's great too.

It's very educational to take a trip to the supermarket and read the labels
on the foods you like. Look at everything and check out the entrees in the
frozen food section. You'll get a feeling for what has carbs and how much
they have.

To survive on a long term low carb diet it may be necessary to start cooking
some stuff for yourself. Nothing fancy. You can fry up italian sausage in a
pan, or grill a small steak in a George Foreman Grill, Put a serving of
chicken wings or thighs in the oven for an hour at 375 and enjoy. You'll
save money too. Cooking is much easier than many people think and it really
helps make low carbing work, long term.

Yay!! Mystery solved. I wouldn't trust any fried food, unless I did it
myself. I've heard recommendations here for using crushed pork rinds as a
breading, I'm going to try this soon.

You ate four pieces of DEEP FRIED chicken. I'm not surprised your blood
sugar is high. The carrots have carbs, but that few probably didn't
matter. Check the book....any book.

It is surprisingly good. Excellent crispness, lovely color.
