Default Doctors: Be firm with obese

10/20/03

Severe and extreme obesity rates are soaring, and so are health care costs.
Hmm, I wonder if there is a connection?

Medical schools now realize that they need to add programs that teach
doctors how to treat the obese. How about a program that teaches doctors
how to stop enabling the obese?

In 1970, doctors told my father to stop smoking and lose weight, or die. He
took their advice and not a magic prescription pill, and today at 76 he
still gets out for his daily walk.
