What to eat before a 5k RACE?
Ignoramus10885 wrote in news:c6f27l
: I am going to participate in a 5k race tomorrow, if the weather is good. I am 5'11", 33 yo, 173 lbs, and will probably run in under 30 min. That's to give an idea of where I stand. This will be my first race. My question is, what should I eat on the morning before race. My thinking is, 3 pieces of bread with milk should be good. Is that a good idea? Eat what you normally would eat before a fast training run. I wouldn't try anything different for race day. Phil M. -- "Pain is temporary: the success it brings can be everlasting." -fortune cookie |

The less you experiment, the better. Eat whatever you've comfortably eaten prior to strenuous workouts previously. It may help if you get up early enough to put some time between the meal and the run. Good luck. Cheers, -- Donovan Rebbechi http://pegasus.rutgers.edu/~elflord/ |

I ran the race for 25.20, according to my watch. Will see what the official results are. Not bad for someone want to break 30 minutes. Way to go! How did you feel during the race? Personally, I don't enjoy doing 5Ks - way too much intense pain for me. I prefer the dull, mind-numbing pain of the marathon. ;-) Phil M. -- "Pain is temporary: the success it brings can be everlasting." -fortune cookie |

A couple Krispy Kremes work well for me. Some sugars to get me started quickly. Some carbs for the next 20 minutes. Some fat/cholesterol to remind me why I run in the first place. a. |
