"Walking off the pounds"
I've been seeing alot of magazine cover pages these days with the big
title: "WALK OFF THE POUNDS". Has any one of you verified that just walking an hour a day made a big difference in your weight loss? |

I walking and watching what I eat too so I cant contribute it all to the
walking. But I do know that since I have started exercising, which includes walking 3.5 miles a day (usually 1 hr)5 days per week and going to curves gym for 30 minutes a day 3 times per week I have alot more energy and I think it helps curve my appetite. I just feel better. lori wrote: I've been seeing alot of magazine cover pages these days with the big title: "WALK OFF THE POUNDS". We should not think only in term of weight-loss but also in health
terms like energy, well-being, relaxation, etc. I have been playing hockey for a year and always had that pain in the knee area. I have just started to walk 4 miles a day, and I don't have that pain anymore. It looks like walking has strengthened the muscle in the knee area that were painful because they were too weak. Hockey must have been a shock for my knees since it was the only physical activity I have been doing. I sit in front of a computer at work and doing way too much Internet... I will subsitute an hour of Internet with an hour of walking, without question. |

When I originally lost my weight in '84 the only exercise I did was walking. Walking combined with the WW program allowed me to get to my goal weight. Beverly |

Amy 168/116 Branching out into other forms of exercise seems to be a frequent pattern for many who have lost weight walking. Walking is usually easy and safe as a beginning exercise. Many discover exercise can be fun and find other activities to stay active. I still enjoy a long hike in the local parks. I've always owned a bicycle but never got back into serious biking until after I lost the weight. Back in '84 I never thought I would be riding metric centuries at age 62g Beverly |

wrote in message oups.com... I've been seeing alot of magazine cover pages these days with the big title: "WALK OFF THE POUNDS". Has any one of you verified that just walking an hour a day made a big difference in your weight loss? Walking is a big part of my exercise routine. I walk 3mi a day 5 days a week on top of Xboxing for 15min a day 5 days a week. I do see a difference not only in my weight loss, but also in my endurance as well. I can take flights of stairs without stopping or huffing, I raced my little nephews down the street and won (I was running, they were on rollerblades), these are just some of the things I couldn't do before. I guess it's different for everyone, but it comes down to doing something - from walking to conducting imaginary symphonies - to get some sort of exercise. Weight loss in its simplest terms is expending more calories than you take in... Matty 481/298/241 (starting weight/current weight/goal weight) First mini goal achieved - 104lbs lost 10/26/04 Second mini goal achieved - 137lbs lost 01/28/05 Third mini goal achieved - 183lbs lost 09/30/05 Fourth mini goal - 200lbs total lost by 02/27/06 (New goal set!) |

It's good to hear from several people here that walking is great for
them. Walking an hour once a day will reduce your chances to walk with a cane or a buggy when you're older! Can you imagine yourself with that???? I see people with their buggy. I have pity for them. |

Not me...
I find that walking with my normal diet is enough to maintain my normal body weight/shape. I really have to push myself (weight training, aerobics & running) to take off pounds and I have to continue these activities to keep those pounds off. I do feel great about walking though, as does my doggy of course! It is great heart exercise and an enjoyable way for me to get some fresh air, sunshine, and gather up all my thoughts!! KR |

Oh yes, I saw that on your website! 60 minutes for me is well enough. I
walk as fast as I can. On my way back home I lose a lot of leg coordination and am out of balance. Someone who sees me entering the building must think I'm drunk. Someone explained to me that when you walk your muscles expand and when you stop they contract. And that's why -for a few minutes- you experience problems walking again. |
