That's a real bummer, Kat. I don't know what type of treatment but if

it's
mediction can your doctor recommend something else?

nope

Will the weight gain taper off as the treatment progresses?

I'm not sure right now.

Hope you can work something out.

Beverly

thank you.

There are several meds that can cause weight gain and you are right - by the
time you need one, it is best to take it.

Some, like corticosteriods (decadron, solumedrol) impair insulin and sugar
metabolism. This causes fairly quick weight gain - much of it fluid. I
would ask your doc how severely limiting carbs might help you (get rid of
some of the insulin).

Some others cause increased appetite or lethargy. This is a real killer for
some.

Hope you do well. 27 pounds is nothing next to chronic illness.

I apologize, and I think your exactly correct. I think I got annoyed

because
your answer sounded just a little to much like my husbands lol More than

once I
have had to tell him "Ok I don't expect you to FIX this, just hear what I

have
to say"
Of course, you both have a good point.

My point was more about the frustration. To make myself healthy, I am

also
making myself sick (fat). I worked VERY hard at dropping 175 lbs. Only to

find
myself about 50 lbs heavier is exasperating.

Kat,
If it's any consolation I know some of what you are going through and it is
extremely frustrating. Obviously you know your health is most important but
it's hard to look in the mirror and see extra weight. The weight I've put
on has me just despising myself and the reassurances from people (doctors,
shrinks, family, or friends) don't change what I see and feel. My DH
pointed out that a year ago I would have been thrilled to be at this weight
and it's true, but it isn't fixing the aggravation.

Feel free to email me if you need to vent.

So, what does the doctor say about it?

"Better heavy than dead."
I guess she has a point. :\

Perhaps I did. It sounds like this might be one of those Venus/Mars

issues.
As a guy, I assumed you were asking for a solution to a problem. But,
perhaps you just wanted to discuss what's going on in your life right now
without the need for problem-solving. That sort of thing trips up us

guys
all the time :-).

No worries...it's hard enough for us guys to figure this out face-to-face.
Over the internet, lacking any visual or auditory clues, it's even more
difficult.

As my dad used to say, it sounds like you've got a tough row to hoe. Best
of luck with it.
