Oatmeal seems to be very popular for breakfast. I fix mine at work -
oatmeal, one scoop of protein powder and ground flax seed. I also find
myself fixing the same thing when I'm at home as I like it.

That is my favorite breakfast with blueberries or raspberries and milled
flax seed! I usually add 1/4 cup of walnuts OR 1 tbls of natural peanut
butter to mine too! This keeps me full until lunchtime most of the time.

Sounds good. You know, for my calorie budget nothing beats a nice hot
bowl of oatmeal with some blueberries or an apple in it. I love

pancakes
and maybe once a month I'll have 2 for breakfast with pure maple syrup
but they sure don't keep my tummy happy as long as oatmeal.

Does this happen to anybody else? Someone either sees you sprinkling in
the flax seed meal or you mention that you put it into this salad or that
recipe and they ask "What's that?" and you get to talk about it and what
it tastes like and why it's good for us? I enjoy that even if their eyes
glaze over. lol (They can't deny I'm doing something right though!)

I fix my oatmeal in one of the convenience centers on our floor each
morning. I've had many people tell me it smells so good and ask what I add
to the oatmeal. I think it's the vanilla flavor protein powder that gives
mine that good smell. Several ask about the flax seed as they have no idea
what it adds to the nutritional value. A few have commented that they
could probably take lessons in healthy eating from me. One fellow said
oatmeal makes him gag but he does like the smell of mine - but not enough
to try eating itg

Bwahahaha.....

Oh believe me... its NOT! Actually its worse. Its just that I
haven't been so vocal about it in this group this year. But she is
driving me insane!

Foodwise its been better. Personality wise... well, lets just put it
this way - I don't want to go home, especially knowing she's there.

Hang in there - she'll be gone soon. Thankfully I never had a MIL problem.

I want to get to the point you are at... I am on the way there but not there
yet. I've too many years of food and binging addiction to get rid of my
issues in less then 1 year. I've really been better at self talk whenever I
have a craving. There are some times it works, and that is an
accomplishement. BTW, how is your knee therapy going?

"JayJay"

How did you do it? Any advice for those of us not quite there yet?

I wish I could tell you. I'll have to do some more thinking to figure

that
one out. I think its been a slow, gradual change. Don't get me wrong,
there are days at work when they bring donuts, etc in and i will indulge.
But whereas a few years ago (heck, even last year).. I would have 2, 3,

or
even 4 donuts. I'd have donuts for breakfast, then since Iover indulged,
i'd tell myself "no lunch" but then I'd get hungry and go see if there

were
any donuts left and have some more.

But now, they aren't that important to me. I know that if I eat it, it
doesn't taste that great... so I can take them or leave them.

That's just one example...

If I find my answer, i'll be sure to post. But I think its just a

gradual
change and the final realization that food isn't that important. And, if

I
do feel like havign something, I don't deprive myself of it either. So,
that takes the focus off of food and back onto other things - like living
life and enjoying it.

I'm convinced that people who claim to hate oatmeal haven't had any
since their mom served them a lukewarm gluey mess with milk on it. I
wouldn't eat that now! But nuke an apple, throw some raisins in and
sprinkle it with cinnamon & cloves & flaxmeal yum! I did try someone's
idea to stir in some peanut butter, but I didn't like that enough.

Guess what I'm having for breakfast tomorrow?

(Ftr, my mom used to eat it with butter and brown sugar but at least that
taught me it didn't have to have milk.)

In the long run I haven't lost a great deal of weight, but my body
shape and composition has changed a great deal. Its also taken me
this long to not obsess over food while I'm trying to lose a few lbs.

That is awesome! I'm not losing anything right now either, but my clothes
keep fitting better and better. I may be working out too much, if that is
possible.

As for the knee. The official PT is over, I'm still doing the work on
my own though. The knee still hurts, so once I get thru this work
remodelling project, I'll make another appointment with the doc to
determine the next course of action. That also gives me more time to
work on the "muscle growth" part of PT and see if there is any
difference in the long run.

Geez time passes... it seems like yesterday that you were just going to a
PT. Glad to see that it is still getting better.

Mine is a sweetheart and she means well. She is just so f-ing
clueless she couldn't find her way out of a paperbag. And she drives
me NUTS!!

Came home last night - their last night here... and she'd made
2 maple syrup pies
1 raspberry tart pie
1 9x9 pan of date squares
strawberry shortcake

All this to "leave behind" for us... since we never have any sweets
in our house. Poor DH is just oh, so deprived.... I must be such a
horrible wife/mother since I don't have that kind of sweet stuff
readily available in my house ALL the time. rolling eyes w/
sarcasm

My grandkids have dubbed my house "The Healthy Place". They know there
will never be any chips, cookies, etc so they just head to the fridge for
yogurt or a piece of fruit when they're visiting. I did fool the girls
when they were little -I told them yogurt was ice cream that didn't have to
be kept in the freezer. Grandma's are allowed to tell little white liesg
