Default Introduce myself

I've just read over the last 500 messages in this NG and it looks like
there is a lot of
support, knowledge and good advice here.

I just turned 65 after retiring early 3 years ago due to multiple health
problems and
have been living on a very modest income and having to use the food bank
next door, so
my diet has been terrible! I've put on a lot of weight so I now have to
work to take it
off.

I have sleep apnea (treated) but have an enlarged heart because of it as
well as
muscular and osteoarthritis. I use a cane, can't handle more than a
couple of stairs
and on a good day can walk about 500 feet on the level. With the
Congestive Heart
Failure and Asthma, I can't go very far or very fast.

Now that I've got my first pension cheque, I can afford to buy proper
food for a change,
but found when I went to the store the other day, I would look at
something and the
little voice would say that I can't afford that!
Some retraining is in order, I guess.

I live in a seniors apartment building and they have a residents support
bus that takes
us to the mall to shop and I'm going tomorrow for my first real shopping
trip in over
three years. I've been sitting making a list (my memory is really crappy).

They have red papayas, strawberries, yellow mangoes on sale, so I'm
going to load up.

I need to go low-fat and learn to eat regularly as I've developed a
habit of only eating
once a day, sometimes going 14 or 15 hours without eating, just having
an occaisional
tea.

So..... lots of fresh fruit and veggies
Fish
No fat yoghurt
Cottage cheese
Quark cheese if I can find it
Whole wheat bread
Green tea

If anyone can think of any healthy things to buy, I would appreciate all
advice.

Regards
Lee
