Default I'm checking in (quickly).

Well, in the past month and a half, I have cut down on added sugars.
I have cut down on the Power Bars and I put no more than one tsp of
sugar in my coffee. I have cut down on the white bread too. Results?
I have had increased energy. Thank you Ignoramus for the good
advice!! I know, I know - I haven't eliminated the added sugars, but
at least I have cut down! Next step: eliminate. Ooh, can I do that?
Maybe I will need to meditate, to tell myself that I can do it.

Also, in the past month and a half, I have only had one canker sore!
One! That is positive in itself. I'm sure it has to do with cutting
down on the sugars.

I have been eating lots of tomatoes.

Unfortunately, I sometimes have a hankering for a beer. So while I
have been eating less white bread, I will drink a beer, which is FULL
of sugar and of course makes me go to the bathroom. Some things are
hard to resist.

I have a quick anecdote. Has anyone ever had this happen to them:
You go to the doctor and say you need to lose weight - he says
"Eliminate all red meat, stay very low on the saturated fats - no
butter, no lobster, no red meat whatsoever." Then later, you come
back and tell him, "I have lots of friends who are doing well with
Atkins - what do you think about it?" He looks around, closes the
door, and says in a low voice, "PSSSST... I'm not supposed to tell
anyone, but I have lots of patients doing well on Atkins, and I'm on
it myself, and I'm doing well with it - and I recommend it!!"

Gotta go! See you guys soon!!

Joe,

Here's the deal. The Atkins diet does not make sense according to accepted
practice guidelines. Suppose, that your doc advised you to go on Atkins and
then you promptly had a heart attack. Whatever the etiology, the atty for
your grieving family could come up with numerous studies that showed that
ingestion of saturated fats caused increased cholesterol resulting in heart
attacks. The info on Atkins would be far less available and much of it
would be paid for by Atkins.

Note, this is not to say that Atkins isn't effective and that research is
not forthcoming about the benefits of diets that restrict insulin
production. However. most MD's rely upon 'evidenced based practice' to
protect them in this lawsuit happy society! I know that I do.

I have several relatives who are docs. I have asked them about Atkins and
while they are reluctant to advise it for patients, they never discourage a
patient. Hopefully, in the future, we will have studies that show that the
practice of advocating Atkins is beneficial.

As far as beer - have you tried Micholob Ultra? It has changed my life

I did Atkins 6 years ago for about 3 years. I had my blood chemistry done
before I started the diet and rountinely during the 3 years. My cholesterol
dropped from the 240's to 160's AND my HDL and LDL levels improved as well
to normal levels... No, I am still not following that WOL. It just does not
work for me anymore and I did gain 60 of the 110 lbs I lost on it over the
past 3 years since I've been off.

And how did you do that? Overeating or over Atkins?
