Default LC - Appetite Suppression - Alcohol

Well ...I don't know if this post is a question, an observation, or just an
invitation for others to chime in and offer their thoughts ...but here ya go
....

1) One of the most dramatic things I've noticed about my low carb eating is
the appetite suppression effect. I can eat without eating too many calories
and I just don't feel deprived. Instead I feel satisfied. It's awesome.
....

2) I know that drinking alcohol (even alcohol with no carbs) can delay the
burning of body fat because the body must burn the alcohol first. Also,
alcohol has calories, of course, which must be counted. ...

3) ...But the surprise for me is that after three vodka martinis the
appetite suppression effect of LC eating is gone - and I mean GONE! This is
just like in the past when every meal I ate included either mashed potatoes
with butter or a lot of pasta, and though I would eat more than enough food,
I would not feel satisfied. You eat, but there is no signal to the brain
that you ate, so you eat again.

4) I now know that I need to plan for the vodka, perhaps drinking just a
couple of drinks every two weeks. I've got to do something! (Yes, I know
that I could also consider just forgetting the alcohol altogether, but I do
enjoy it once in a while. ...Oh ...who knows ...maybe I will just forget
it.)

Any thoughts? What is your experience with LC plus alcohol (and appetite
suppression)?

IMHO: Never let a diet run your life.

You like Vodka Martini's? Have one, hell..have two...have 3 even, if you
can afford the calories.

Then drink a bunch of water, which will both combat any dehydration the
alcohol will bring on, and will
help to restore that "full feeling" to your brain. Also, a few handfulls of
nuts will help.

Now if you're doing this every day...hmmmm..then you gotta rethink my
advice, but if its a once-a-week thing?
A friday night ritual? We only have one life to live....enjoy it while
you're here. Have the Martini.

I'm of the opposite opinion -- avoid alcohol. Drinking got me to where I
am today because it definitely makes me eat more while drinking and the
entire next day. Even today, I try to drink not more than once per month,
and I gain 5-6 pounds every time I do it (granted, most of this is water,
but still).

When I do have a few drinks, and the times are not many now, I'm always
starving the next day. Also, I get a buzz with a couple, so maybe not
drinking as many as I used to, but I never have a hangover with LC. No
stomach upset, no headache, nothing but a huge appetite.

I've lost 18 pounds in a month. I think the effect you mention here is
exactly why. I eat, I'm satisfied, and I lose weight. What a combination.

Per above, makes perfect sense. I've been avoiding alchohol since starting
down this path. I know that won't last forever ...there's too much great
wine out there to skip it forever... I'll just have to plan smartly for it.
I don't think alchohol ever made up a significant potion of my calorie
intake anyway.

3) ...But the surprise for me is that after three vodka martinis the
appetite suppression effect of LC eating is gone - and I mean GONE!

I haven't tried it, but maybe plan on consuming a few fatty LC snacks before
or with your dirnks. The alchohol police always say to eat something with
your beverage of choice. I wonder if some LC snacks may help to supress the
urge to munch after only a few bites. Even if you chow down while drinking,
it may be better then polishing off that whole bag of chips, eh?

I'm curious to see how it works out for you. Let us know.

Tom

Pure alcohol carbs are poorly digested so they aren't as bad as you think...
I'll drink to that!!
