Default LCing in Vegas

Just back from a wonderful 4 day trip. I can't even tell you how easy and
thrilling it was to hit the buffets. I'm a frequent visitor and usually eat
at the fancier, and pricier strip hotels, but this trip I decided to try the
cheaper off the strip hotels. So much to choose from for us LCers. Eggs
bacon sausage ham cold cuts cheeses cream cheese fresh fruit, and that was
only part of the breakfast! I checked the web and found that the Mainstreet
Station had a thursday night special of steak and shrimp scampi. I drove
downtown, parked, played a bit then hit the big beautiful buffet. To my
surprise besides all the Italian, Chinese, Mexican, America stuff, they had
FILET MIGNONs and shrimp scampi! ALL I wanted, and topped off with a few
sugar free desserts! Across the street from the fancy Palms, is the Gold
Coast. Besides the huge buffet of a million things for the $10 bucks I had
smoked pork ribs and BBQ beef ribs. OH MY GOD..... they were that great.
With some green salad, cole slaw, and again sugar free cheesecake and
whipped cream. I was in heaven. Bottom line after this pigout? I got home to
find I had lost 3 lbs in the 4 days! I ATE LIKE A MAN ON DEATH ROW! LOL

I am going on a 7 night Carribean cruise - leaving Miami Sept 12. I think
with all the buffets on the ship - I should easily be able to eat LC and
guess what - I don't gotta cook - what could be better - oh yeah - a gym on
the ship - and a spa (maybe a nice spa treament to reward my 24 pound loss -
so far). I am so excited to go. It's my first cruise ever and I hope not
my last.

You know, if I was on death row, I doubt that I would have much of an
appetite.

Just got off a Caribbean cruise. It would have been very, very easy to
stay LC while on board. I chose not to (I always cheat on vacation),
but the LC choices were plentiful. The ship that I was on had a
breakfast buffet with scrambled eggs or made-to-order omelets with
lots of filling choices, plus bacon, sausage, breakfast ham, oatmeal
(okay for South Beachers?), melon, cheeses, etc. Lunches were a little
tougher but they always had something at the carving station, big
salad bar with lots of toppings, platters of cold cuts and cheeses,
fruit, etc. At dinner, you could always opt for a steak or broiled
chicken if none of the entrees worked for you. Salads always available
as well as yummy appetizers like shrimp cocktail, smoked salmon,
escargot, etc. If you're disciplined, you can eat very well on an LC
diet while cruising.

oh yeah - a gym on
the ship -

Don't expect the gym to be like the one at home. Some are better than
others. The gym on the ship I was on ws awful, imho. They had about 4
treadmills, a couple of elliptical trainers and two stationary bikes.
They had a full rack of dumb bells and four weight machines. That's
about it. Could have used a rack of bar bells, several more machines
and another bench or two (there was only one bench). They offered some
fitness classes. Step aerobics was no extra charge, but yoga and
fitness ball carried an additional $10 charge. I used the gym once and
left aggravated so didn't return. We do try to be active while in
port, though.

and a spa (maybe a nice spa treament to reward my 24 pound loss -
so far).

I've had good luck with the quality of spa services I've gotten on
cruises. They are, however, very costly - way more than you'd pay at
home. Also, there's usually a very hard sell for you to buy product.
Be firm, let them know up front that you're just there for the
treatment and you're not interested in the product. They make
commission on the stuff, so they push and push.

I am so excited to go. It's my first cruise ever and I hope not
my last.

Just got back from my tenth cruise (8 different cruise lines) so if
you have any questions, feel free to email me privately. You'll have a
great time.

It is Carnival - Explorer of the Seas - BTW the ship is a $600 million ship.
I saw a show on the travel channel devoted to cruise ships and they showed
all the stuff on the same ship I will be sailing on - I can't imagine the
vastness of it. I don't think the TV shows the enormity of it and can't do
it justice. I leave the dock on 12 Sep. Will misss all of y'all while I'm
gone.
