Update
Hi everybody, you might remember me. On August 1, 2003, I posted a message
to this ng entitled "Please help me understand what is going on." Just to recap, I told you about how, despite going from a sedentary lifestyle to a very active and physically demanding job, that six weeks later, I hadn't lost a pound. Well, As of September 24, I had still been working at that job *and* walking 3 miles a once a week on Saturdays. As far as food intake, the only difference was that I did eat breakfast consisting of a cheese and bacon bagel. That is the only additional daily food intake during this entire period of time. As of September 24th, I had gained 12 pounds. And NO, my clothes were NOT fitting any looser, and NO, I didn't feel any better - at all - in fact I felt worse than I ever had before. So much for your theory of exercise and increasing activity to burn calories and lose weight. When it comes to that idea, your all wet. SD back to her normal lifestyle now, and hopefully on the road to really losing some pounds. -- *..· ´¨¨)) -:¦:- ¸.·´ .·´¨¨)) ((¸¸.·´ .·´ -:¦:- *Shashay* -:¦:- -:¦:- ((¸¸.·´* |

Well, so sorry you are struggling. I don't recall your specifics from
August. (with hundreds of posts a day, you can't remember them all). But, bagels are calorie dense food items. And 3 miles once a week, well, that might burn you an extra 400 calories - which is only equivalent to 1 bagel. "Shashay Doofray" wrote in message ... Hi everybody, you might remember me. Update
Here's your original post:
For the past 7 years I have been about 40 lbs overweight. Initially, the weight gain (in a 9 month period) was due to taking Depo Provera shots. However, it has been more than 5 years and I still have not lost any weight. Recently, I have gotten a good job that requires me to be much more physically active than I have ever been before. To give you an idea of the difference let me give you an idea of my "before" and "after" life style. BEFO Get up around 11 am or noon. Sit around. Work on computer. Do nothing. Maybe go for a car ride. Lunch at around 2 - 3 pm. Usually soup and sandwich or worse. Afternoon. Not do much. Read. Maybe do a little sewing. Work on computer. Do nothing much. Dinner around 7, usually a nice meal (meat, starch, vegetable, salad) A couple of beers Snack at around midnight (usually a sandwich) Bed at about 3 am AFTER: Up at 8:30 Breakfast at 9:00 (usually a boiled egg and toast or possibly bagle and cream cheese) Vitamins. Work all morning. On my feet constantly walking. Lifting 40 pounds of merchandise repeatedly during the day. Possibly as much as 60- 100 times a day. Constant walking, bending, lifting. No sitting down except for lunch break. Lunch. Sandwich, fresh veggies, potato chips, water Afternoon (same as morning) Dinner at 7 same as before After dinner, check email Snack at 11 same as before bed by 1 am. Now wouldn't you think that going from being absolutely sedentary to being very physically active all day, that after 9 weeks I would have lost SOMETHING? Nope. Not a pound. I am totally stupified. I thought I would be dropping weight like nobody's business. Does anybody have a rational explanation for this?" end quote Without a calorie count, there is no way to explain anything. You could easily be eating 3000-5000 calories per day. Walking 3 miles once per week isn't going to do much for weight loss. If you now working a more physical job, you are more likely eating more as well. Count your calories for a few days, then post back with details. You have to reduce your intake by 3500 calories to loose a pound. You do the math. Melissa |

Have you tried going to www.fitday.com and entering your daily food intake to see how many calories you're eating? Try to keep the calories at a 10 x current weight range. This should certainly result in some weight loss. Are you doing any exercise other than the 3 mile walk on Saturdays? I workout 3 times a week at Curves and unless I watch my calorie intake I can still can gain weight. Exercise helps but unless you keep your calories at the proper level you'll just be a "fitter fatter person". Are you keeping the protein/carb/fat ratio at a good level? It's really hard to gain 12 pounds unless you're eating above your required calorie range. So much for your theory of exercise and increasing activity to burn calories and lose weight. When it comes to that idea, your all wet. If the rest of your diet is anything like your high fat high carb bagel breakfast, it's no wonder you gained. Bottom line is that you must eat MORE calories than you burn every day to lose weight (diet + exercise), and that you must eat MORE calories than you burn every day to gain weight. If you gained 12 lbs, then you are eating TOO MUCH. Unless you have some medical problem affecting your metabolism - but I doubt it. Yeah, everybody wants to believe that really, there is some magic to losing weight, that doesn't require diligence, effort, sweat, and sacrifice. But it don't exist... det |

So I don't buy the theory. SD |

Seriously - success will only come when you start taking a good hard look at what you eat and being willing to exercise. Walking 3 miles burns very few calories. Tell me, how many calories do you consume in a day? det |

FWIW...you could easily gain 1 pound per week by adding that bagel to your
daily intake. A large New York style bagel can have 300-500 calories. Depending on what you put on it could make it more as well. Go on playing the victim and you'll never loose weight. You have to own the problem to fix it. Regardless of what you believe, it's calories in and calories used that determine gain or loss. Melissa "Shashay Doofray" wrote in message ... If you really want to lose weight you need to track your calories for a few days. You're probably eating much more than you think. |
