Default On feeling 'hypo' during exercise.

Hi.
Greetings from Singapore.
Remember me, the diabetic newbie, who wants to start up to play tennis but
can't coz he get feelings of 'hypo' after 2 km runs?:-)
We'll this an update on what I did, following the advice the good folks here
have posted.
I woke up in the morning. My bg is 5.1mmo/L(92mg/dl).
Had a small bowl of cereal and another small bowl of baked beans. I usually
avoid cereals as I get huge spikes of above 10(180) if I don't work out
after meal.
Went for my run 30 minutes later. Run consisted of half hour fast paced
walking, quarter hour slow pace run and quarter hour fast pace run. No
'hypo' feelings.
Checked bg - 6.8 (122). That's almost 2 hour after meal and moderate
exercise reading. But I felt my right ear gave me a 'water in the ear'
feeling after my run. Maybe I should cut my cereal portion by half next
time.
My usual breakfast of a bowl of salad, an egg , tofu or baked beans and soya
bean drink gives me an after a 2 hour post meal reading of below 5.9 (106).
Any comments?

Thanks in advice for your kind contribution

Zad,

I am diabetic but not on meds. When my exercise regimen was giving me hypos
I did two things:

1. Two ounces of whole wheat bread 1/2 hr before exercise (thick, bakery
stuff, not supermarket pillowy stuff.) The problem with this is that
occasionally something came up and exercise was delayed, leaving me with a
nasty spike.

2. 2 - 4 grams of candy containing dextrose (which is another name for
glucose) right before execise and half an hour into exercise. Sweetarts
were the one I used. I don't know if you have these in Singapore. Look for
something with dextrose as the primary sweetener and 8 to 16 calories per
piece. This worked the best for me because it nudges the hypo up 10 mg/dl or
so while not causing a spike. The 2 grams works perfectly for someone
around 150 lbs. If you are 300 lbs you have to double it. It's a straight
line function inbetween.
