To conform to what society. to HELL with society. My mom's best friend didn't have WLS to conform with society or to "look good in a bikini". She had it because the risk of remaining as fat as she was (she was incapacitated and on disability) to her mind, outweighed the risk of the surgery. She had multiple health problems due to how heavy she was, and losing some weight was an immediate life-saving necessity for her. She accepted the risks of surgery, as a calculated risk which to her mind was still lower than the risk of staying as heavy as she was. It was her choice. WLS definitely isn't something you do just to "lose a few". I will never be a candidate. My mom who is in Weight Watchers will never be a candidate. Even my 80-pounds-overweight acquaintance K. is not a candidate and would never consider such a thing. What really troubles me? The fact that some people who are only somewhat pudgy are now considered "morbidly obese" and would consider this surgery. Wilson |

That may true but the point is that a lot of people seem to be treating this
surgery as a less than serious matter. Also, because it is becoming somewhat faddish and is definitely a money-maker for the surgeons, a number of doctors are doing them without proper training which always increases the chance for things to go wrong. In , LCer09 stated | | I really don't see how WLS carries more chance of complications than | any other surgery. They cut open your body, go inside, and mess with | stuff. That's asking for at least a small percentage of **** to go | wrong, in ALL procedures. | | LCing since 12/01/03- | Me- 5'7" 265/202/140 | & hubby- 6' 310/215/180 |
