Review: Bartles & Jaymes low carb....
You mention HEB - are you in TX somewhere? I am in San Antonio.
Diane "RT" wrote in message gy.com... They have Margarita and Strawberry flavors, at 3g (total not net) apiece. I got the Margarita. It tastes like a wine cooler, so I guess they achieved that...It's not quite close enough to the real margarita I've been missing, but a nice change from Ultra or the hard stuff... Only $2.99 for a six pack at H-E-B. It doesn't have nutritional info on it of course, so I can't verify, but I imagine it's not hard to add some artificial flavor/sweetener to a basic alcohol base... Review: Bartles & Jaymes low carb....
Bev,
But for maintenance I find that calories are MUCH more significant than carb levels. I have to watch my carbs because of the need to control blood sugar, but even when I eat a lot of carbs, I have to keep my daily calorie total no higher than 1600 or I will start to regain. That low number is partly because I'm in my mid 50s, an age at which the female metabolism really wants to get fat. It is also because I am maintaining a 30 lb loss and my body has become a bit too efficient. When I was in my 30s I used to be able to lose weight pretty easily and maintain on 2200 calories a day. But weight loss at my age is a whole lot tougher. My maintenance carb level tends to rise and fall. I'm in my second year of maintenance now and over the year I've eaten anywhere from 40 to 120 grams a day, so the average is around 80 but there is a lot of fluctuation. Typically I'll eat a low carb breakfast and lunch and then have a higher carb dinner if we are going out. If my carbs are up for a few days, I stay away from high fat low carb treats like cheese and nuts or low carb ice cream. If I'm keeping my carbs closer to 60 or 70 grams, I eat them. Because I have diabetes, my basic ground rule is that my blood sugar should not go over 140 mg/dl at 1 hour. Medication can make it possible to bump up the carb intake without going over that limit, which is why my carb levels are higher than they used to be. But if I really overdo it the blood sugar goes up and I feel like crap. So I avoid that. --Jenny - Low Carbing for 4 years. Below goal for weight. Type 2 diabetes, hba1c 5.7 . Is this realistic? on Sat, 10 Jul 2004 08:41:33 -0400, "Jenny" wrote: Bartender, I'm into my fifth year of low carbing and I've put in a couple months researching the science behind blood sugar response. Drinking causes low carb dieters problems for a few reasons. One is calories. One is that it stops fat burning. One is that when people get tipsy they tend to lose control and eat things they shouldn't. Moderation is excellent, but if you are eating 120 grams a day of carb you are on a moderate, not low carb, regimen and you better be very, very careful with your fat intake because there is a bunch of research showing very bad things happening to the cardiovascular systems of people on moderate carb/high fat diets. As soon as carbs go over 100 gm a day, the physiology changes. You're likely to see high post-meal triglycerides and these in combination with high circulating free fatty acids are bad news. This is one of the big problems with the low carb diet and a reason, I believe, why doctors have problems with it. They see patients lose a lot of weight in the diet phase, but then continue to eat the very high fat foods when they are in an increasingly high carb maintenance phase which does harm health. ----- Bev |

BTW, your original post said "It doesn't have nutritional info on it." Bob Skilnik I'll be sure and differentiate between "nutritional info" and "ingredients" going forward :-) Thanks! |

Austin (Leander technically). The H-E-B's vary widely in LC (faux food if JC
is listening) products. Luckily one of the ones by me seems to like to try new products out fairly regularly. "Diane Ball" wrote in message ... You mention HEB - are you in TX somewhere?
