HORMONES DARN IT !
Kate Dicey wrote:
I love my Mirena for many of the same reasons: Hm. Five years and instantly reversible sounds like an IUD, but you still have regular periods with those. This Mirena product may be something different and as yet unlicensed by the FDA, because I don't think we have anything that works like that. Wouldn't surprise me, I'm pretty sure depo provera was licensed over in Europe several years before they accepted it here. Right now I think they've got a 12-month injection in clinical trials, but aside from IUDs that's the longest-lasting one-time thing we've got. What else can you tell us about this lovely product? -Tay |

I've gone from 9 day wonders to 2-3 days of spotting with no pain. Not usually enough to stop me swimming. I still gain a bit of water each month, but nowt like the 5" added to my waistline and several painful bra-cup sizes I used to put on! Here's the gen: http://www.womens-health.co.uk/mirena.asp And these may also help: http://www.mirena-us.com/index.html (Looks like it IS available over the ask your doc.) http://www.medic8.com/healthguide/ar...mirenaiud.html (As with any medicine or medical procedure, there *can* be adverse side effects in rare cases. I've never encountered anyone with any of them: most appear to have the success I have. I was facing a hysterectomy without it!) -- Kate XXXXXX R.C.T.Q Madame Chef des Trolls Lady Catherine, Wardrobe Mistress of the Chocolate Buttons http://www.katedicey.co.uk Click on Kate's Pages and explore! |

I avoid those: exams are extremely uncomfortable for me as it is, I made the IUD/shots decision over six years ago because I preferred a small stick in the arm every three months to a prolonged insertion exam every five years (they're already far too long if you ask me). And curiously, it says they prefer the women to have already had at least one child (probably easier insertion), but I'm never having children, so that's a strike against me anyway. But mostly I just know they'd have to strap me down and whack me over the head to get me to relax for replacement every five years, and my theory is, if they have to beat me senseless to get me to do it, I probably shouldn't be doing it. So I guess I'm still waiting around for them to approve the 12-month injection -Tay |

Kate, I asked about Mirena before but was told that since I don't have kids
it wasn't for me.. On the website that you posted it says it makes it more difficult to insert, but not that it's dangerous or anything.. Do you know anything about that? I think it's fairly new in the States, so they probably still shaky about it.. I'm really interested though.. WIll~ "Kate Dicey" wrote in message ... Tayra wrote: Willow Herself wrote: Actually I'm pretty happy with it. I get the munchies (and crankies) once every 3 months.. so it's a far sight better than every month.. and I haven't had any of the side effects I've heard about.. I don't even get that every three months. Or cramps, or anything else, as long as I go in every 10 weeks instead of 12 or 13. My gyn and I figured it seems to wear off a bit quicker in me, because of my mass, so she's told them that anytime they (the receptionists) get a stick up their nethers that depo users should only come in every 12 weeks, I'm to refer them to her and she'll set them straight. I mean, that's an average, if I know it, they should. If I go more than 10 weeks I'll get cramps and spotting, but that's about it. No munchies unless I'm actually over the 12 weeks, but by then I'm cramping so bad I couldn't eat anyway (cramps were the reason I got on depo in the first place). And then you have to pee in the stupid cup again before they'll do another shot, and I *hate* that, so it's yet another reason to make sure I get in there. I didn't experience any unusual weight gain when I started it. I mean, I was already overweight, but I didn't have a sudden gain or anything. She has warned me to increase calcium intake, just in case, but otherwise.. I go in every 10 weeks, I never have to deal with anything more than a few light cramps and maybe a little spotting. I wuv my shots. I can actually hold down a job now where I don't have to stay home for three days a month curled up in agony in bed waiting to die. Mind you, today I have a headache, but that's related to cars and money and houses: I got my injection two weeks ago, I'm good there :P -Tay I love my Mirena for many of the same reasons: No 5 day floods and up to nine days of agony and nausea. Therefore, no anaemia! I'm regular and predictable for the first time since I was on fertility treatment! (That was the only other time in my life I was regular - even the pill didn't sort THAT out!) No weight gain. In fact, this is one of the things that made the weight loss possible! No violent mood swings! I get a bit irritable, but this is nothing compared to the hormone induced anger and despair I used to get... And the advantage over shots: the little darling lasts a whole five years! I never have to remember to take pills or schedule shots... Also, if I was younger and contemplating more kids, removal means you instantly revert to full fertility (well, for those who ARE fertile, anyway!) -- Kate XXXXXX R.C.T.Q Madame Chef des Trolls Lady Catherine, Wardrobe Mistress of the Chocolate Buttons http://www.katedicey.co.uk Click on Kate's Pages and explore! |

I think it's fairly new in the States, so they probably still shaky about it.. Childbirth stretches the cervix and it never quite goes back to how it was before... Also, it remains more elastic anyway. If they have to stretch it to insert it, there's a very slight increased risk of misscarrage in the future for the first child - after which the stats are the same as you've stretched it with that kid anyway! -- Kate XXXXXX R.C.T.Q Madame Chef des Trolls Lady Catherine, Wardrobe Mistress of the Chocolate Buttons http://www.katedicey.co.uk Click on Kate's Pages and explore! |
