Making a case for tasting but not eating
One eating disorder involves chewing food, but then spitting it out.
This is what a lot of the food judges do who have to otherwise eat a whole lot of pie, cake, etc. But wait. Nobody accuses them of having an eating disorder. If we try some new food, but find it tastes bad, we simply spit it out when nobody is looking. So what is the difference? Even people who overeat are not said to have an "eating disorder" but to me overeating is the most common eating disorder. It is so common that we do not recognize it as an eating disorder though. Could someone tell me what is wrong with tasting some very tasty, but high calorie foods that you don't want to swallow and digest, but only to taste, then spit out (in the privacy of your home)? It would sure beat swallowing it then wretching and stretching and heaving your guts out trying to throw it up along with hydrochloric acid. I'm sure there are some reasons, but I just don't know of any right off hand. dkw |
