Induction Menu recipes query
Greetings,
I plan to start the Induction Phase and my wife and I are heading for the grocery store. (Unfortunately my immediate area does not seem to have a lot of the products that are readily available in the US). After going through the book (2002) and following some of the group threads of this newsgroup and searching through Google I am a little confused on a couple of the recipes of the menu plan (http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/12/14-373858.html). I was hoping someone may be able to clarify some of the following points: 1.. The book does not have a recipe for Controlled carb vanilla or strawberry shake, but I see in the US that you can buy a product that you just add water to. Google revealed numerous recipes for a Strawberry Shake from low fat to low carb, but each has milk. The induction requirements stipulate NO milk. So my first question is, is there a recipe for these shakes that does not involve milk and fits within the Induction menu? 2.. The menu requires roasted garlic and vegetable dip. I could not locate a vegetable dip recipe in the book and a Google search found a great many vegetable dip recipes. Can anyone assist as to the better recipe for the vegetable dip during Induction? Any other constructive thoughts, advice or tips from those who have gone through the induction stage would be greatly appreciated. Regards DaBo |

Induction Menu recipes query

... When I did the induction phase last fall I pretty much stuck to meats, eggs, cheese & leaf salad for the first two weeks. For me it wasn't too bad as I was eating a lot of food that I loved but had avoided for many years due to the cholesterol hysteria of the 80's. IIRC, not much of the "goodies" were permitted. Even the bars were frowned upon, I believe, so you may want to check out those shakes that you mention. I don't have my copy handy, but I'm certain my edition was the 2002 as well. Any other constructive thoughts, advice or tips from those who have gone through the induction stage would be greatly appreciated. First, I wouldn't get too hung up on following a specific menu plan for induction. The beauty of Atkins is that you can eat a wide variety of foods, even during induction. Pick the ones you like instead of a pre-defined plan. To answer the specific questions, the LC shakes the meal plan refers to are the commerically available ones which come as either liquid or powder. They are fine for an occasional snack or meal replacement, but you can certainly do Atkins without them. If you want them, they are available from lots of online sources, like Atkins, Netrition, etc. You can also make a very good shake from soft tofu and unsweetened soy milk, plus whatever flavoring syrup you like. While this isn't strictly on the induction food list, as long as you count the carbs, it should be ok, in moderation. It's basicly soy, which is a main ingredient of the shake products. The vegetable dip to stuff celery with could be made from cream cheese, but I don't believe that is on the list of induction foods. Perhaps someone else will have an idea. |
