Default How low is too low?

I'm on about 2000-3000 kj (500-750 kcal) per day at the moment. Am I going
to have any problems with this? I have a lot of weight to lose, so this is
something I'll have to be doing for months.

Last time I lost weight, I think I was doing 5000-7000 alternating day by
day. I plan to resume that after about 1-2 months, but to start off I'm
going super low just to kick start the weight loss and to get myself
disciplined.

Actually, last time I had trouble getting up my quotient of calories, ie.
forcing myself to eat when I wasn't really hungry. I figure if I can get by
on less than why bother? I don't want to have to do as much exercise as I
did back then (2-3 hours a day). I'm only planning on 30 mins to 1 hour this
time.

I think I'll try to have an extra meal every second day because that
alternating thing seemed to work for me last time.

Some years ago I did 330 kcal a day for 6 weeks with no apparent
side-effects other than losing 40 lbs.

Last year I did 700 kcal a day for 2 months. Again no side-effects
than I'm aware of.

My doctor told me to never go below 1000kcal.

Go for it! My dietitian suggested a minimum of 800 kcal for me, but it's my
nature to ignore this kind of advice whenever possible. Instant
gratification is the way, and I enjoy watching the pounds roll off. I've
found that living in the range of 300-500 kcals per day works well for me,
but one can't do this for very long periods of time. The problem is that
one's static metabolism responds to the low caloric intake by ramping
downward, so that after six or eight weeks one's daily weight loss is
greatly diminished.

I went from 223 to 202 this past autumn, and for the past month or so I've
been loitering on a 204-208 pound plateau, allowing basal metabolism to get
back to normal. After the first of the year I'll revisit the 300-500 kcal
domain and take off another 20.

When I began this little weight loss scheme I googled about and found that
these low calorie levels tend to produce headaches and rashes. Sure enough,
after six weeks or so I was noticing both, but not to any great extent.
Nothing troublesome or to worry about.

Darkfalz, you and I notice the same thing ‹ coming off of a very low-cal
diet isn't all that easy. The transition from 500 to 2000 kcals per day
takes a little while

The one real downer to a very low cal diet are the many people who feel
obliged to assure you that:

a. You're gonna ruin your health
b. This is bad for you
c. This causes bad breath
d. This is so very counter-Viagra
e. Your gonna have a heart attack
f. Your gonna grow hair on your palms
g. Skinny people look funny

Take courage, and notice that most of your critics are overweight.

If you're exercising regularly, don't go below 1800 calories.

Kick start your program by reviewing your meals for the last few days & figuring out where the problem areas are. Make some minor changes, and watch the weight come off.

Make sure you eat a good breakfast. Get all of your food groups in there, this is the meal that will fuel you for most of the day. Even if you aren't hungry then, it's the most important meal of the day, don't miss it.

Cut out fast foods like Mc Donalds, Burger King, etc. Don't even go there for the salads if you're tempted to buy something else with the salad.

Drink plenty of water. Your body needs it.

If you cut your calories too low, your body goes into starvation mode & hangs onto everything it can. That's why people who go on strict diets just gain all the weight back & then some when they go off the diet. Their metabolism gets messed up & it takes a long time to straighten it out.

Starving your body deprives it of the essential things it needs & can lead to serious medical problems, especially later in life.

You can replace your car, your jeans, any possessions you have, but you can't replace your body. Take care of it. Feed it - not too much, not too little. And give it the fuel it needs to be strong.

You anorexic biatches are going to kill yourselves. the only side effect you'll see from eating 700- calories and exercising 2 hours a day is looking pretty in your coffin. Go see a professional about your eating disorders, and stop hanging out around other anorexics hoping to get support in killing yourselves.

I can't believe ignorant people like you actually have internet communities supporting you in your destruction. If Bush can make one law it really should be banning such ignorance and stupidity. Go read a book on nutrition, it's fat free!
