"lolo" wrote in message om... I would like to know the recommended %s of each. I've heard 30,40,30 and 40,30,30. TIA It depends on your goals. I recently read that runners need to have 60% carbs, but if you're trying to build muscle you'll probably need more protein. I shoot for 25/60/15 but end up more like 35/50/15 in the final analysis due to my personal food preferences and sensitivities. YMMV. Jenn |

'proper' %s of protein/carbs/fat
Dr. Willett from Harvard says that there are no magic percentages.
Some caveats: 1) over 70 grams of protein daily strains your kidneys. 2) more important than the pc's is the quality. Eat good carbs, good fats, and good proteins. What are they? See http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/ (lolo) wrote in message . com... I would like to know the recommended %s of each. I've heard 30,40,30 and 40,30,30. TIA |

I sort of try for around 20% fat, 35% carbs, 45% protein, but I don't worry about it too much. I do try ot keep the protein up to at least 35%, as I think it helps with my muscle development for weightlifitng. Chris 262/168/??? Me, too. It's sort of a Zone Diet idea that really worked for me in terms of managing blood sugar and appetite. It really helped to start logging things on Fitday. To have my carbs be below 50% I really have to pay attention to every carb morsal that goes in my mouth. It's a good thing to be aware like that, if you ask me. I also eat four or five planned meals/snacks a day, with the one between 3 and 4 pm being as important as any of them: if I miss it I'm ravenous and eat everything in the house while preparing dinner! Lately when I've logged I've been surprised to find my fat percentages creeping up because I eat a lot of nuts and salmon. It's not terribly unusual for me to have 33/33/33 come out as my percentages. It's all good as long as my carbs are below 50%, if you ask me. Dally |

Runners and other high-cardio atheletes need a lot of carbs. Low carb diets are not ideal when running, cross country skiing, etc. Personally, I feel better when I do not over load on protein. Around 15-20% is perfect for me. Martha |

I'm curious -- in what way does eating more protein make you feel worse? I think I feel better when I eat more of it. Anyway, I know when I'm hungry protein tends to be what I want first. Chris |

I feel like a slug if I eat too much protein. I also don't feel well if I don't get at least 4-5 servings of fruits & veggies daily, especially fruit. It gives me energy. I always have a piece of fruit around 10am. If I forget it, or don't get it, I don't have the *zip* I usually do. Martha |
