... In the 80's there was eggs-phobia: No more than 3 eggs per week. Some stretched it to 4 eggs per week MAX. Only way to know is to have your cholesterol (both HDL and LDL) tested and see how it is doing. If it's fine, it means you have no genetic cholesterol disorder, and that your endemic cholesterol is not strongly linked to dietary cholesterol - then, enjoy your eggs, they obviously don't hurt you. If you cholesterol is indeed high, you can try eggs from hens fed with flax seeds, since they are high in omega-3 (which will reduce associated risk factors) and pretty low in both cholesterol and saturated fats. If you like near real old fashion farmers, you can also use their eggs if they feed their hens the old fashion way (grain + worms), old times eggs used to be lower in both cholesterol and sat. fats. If you eat any trans fats, that might be a good time to cut them too... If your cholesterol is still high, then you might have to consider more drastic measures, but only then... |

Well, when low-carbing I'm not careful at all about anything but avoiding
carbs. And when eating low-calorie I'm not careful about anything but avoiding too many calories. I just let the rest fall where it does and my blood values and blood pressure and all that always seem ok, though I have to be careful of blood sugar, apparently. Eggs are both low-carb and low-calorie, so I usually have two poached eggs for breakfast on cottage cheese. And sometimes I'll even pick up a couple of hard-boiled eggs at the convenience store for a filling evening snack. I haven't been eating meat the last couple of weeks (just fish) but only because for the same volume of food fish has 1/3 - 1/2 the calories of meat. I'm a bit worried about beef lately anyway, with all you read about with BSE scares and antibiotics and stuff like that. doug On 9/16/04 3:45 PM, in article BEa2d.52954$MQ5.15638@attbi_s52, "Rebecca" wrote: Doug Lerner wrote: I've been eating 14-20 eggs a week since a year ago March and my cholesterol levels are all smack in the middle of the normal range. doug Doug, I'm curious. I'm not Doug, but I've been eating 12-20 eggs a week too, for about a year.
I eat mine scrambled and I never seem to tire of them. Sometimes I have bacon with them, sometimes I make them into egg salad, but usually just straight scrambled eggs. I find they fill me up and I'm good to go until lunch. I don't watch what other meats I eat. Dietary fat is your friend. I used to eat this way before i had gotten pregnant (and went off LC) and my cholesterol had improved majorly. I'm due for some bloodwork soon so I'll report back when I get it done. Hi Folks, In the 80's there was eggs-phobia: No more than 3 eggs per week. Some stretched it to 4 eggs per week MAX. The concern was cholesterol. With LC, does the concern still stand? Currently, I consume about 12 eggs per week. That's violating the 80's bible. Am I inline with the Atkin's bible? I often eat 6 a day, and it does me no problems. |

Eggs are wonderful, Yes, they are. and cholesterol is good. Really? Lee "John E" wrote in message ... Hi Folks, In the 80's there was eggs-phobia: No more than 3 eggs per week. Am I inline with the Atkin's bible? I found eggs to contain much less calories and fat than meat. 3 eggs contain 300 calories and are sufficient for one meal. To get the same level of hunger satisfaction from steak, I need one pound. That's 1000 calories. I begun losing weight faster when I incrased eggs meals and reduced steak and cheese ones. Thanks, J. |

Some of todays mainstream medical phallacies:
1) Dietary cholesterol = blood cholesterol 2) High cholesterol = heart disease 3) Dietary fat = bodyfat 4) 55 to 65% carb diet = good health 5) Pills will make you healthy 6) Diet isn't a concern when it comes to good health 7) Your doctor knows everything about diet 8) Pharmaceutical companies want you to be healthy 9) Low-fat/low-calorie diets work I could go on for hours. It is amazing how screwed up the mainstream is on diets and health. TC "John E" wrote in message ... Hi Folks, In the 80's there was eggs-phobia: No more than 3 eggs per week.
