Default Zero Point Foods

Hi everyone,

I was making up some chili beans yesterday, (basically can of beans, two
cans tomatoes, two cups diced veg & some water & spice), which i usually
would only count as 4 points, which would be for the beans. I usually
use fresh veg so hadn't thought about it, but according to the info on
the bag of diced veg & the cans of tomatoes, those veg would actually
count for 2 points, even though they are "zero point" foods. Do people
usually add this count in, or are the points for "zero" foods just
ignored?

Zero point foods are zero points for a serving but if you have multiple
servings then you should be counting them accordingly. Some people say to
add 1 point for every 3 servings of zero point foods.

I write all of it down and figure out the portions and point it based on a
portion, Lee

Thanks! I ended up counting one of the two vegetable points, but think
I will count all of them next time.

before you decide, list all of the numbers, add them up and divide by the
number of servings, see if that keeps it zero or maybe 1 point, Lee

Since you are probably only having a cup at a sitting, the veggie soup if
made without potatoes should still be zero points due to all of the fiber
you are getting. If you are eating more than a cup at a time then I would
count it as 1 point for the second cup to be sure.

My soup is mainly beans...

I can each of beans, rinsed ( pinto, navy, butterbean, black bean,
kidney bean, sometimes blackeyed peas)

1 can diced tomatoes w/ juice

2-3 large onions

2 cloves garlic

2 small cans tomato sauce

black pepper

water to cover all in crockpot.

I usually eat one soup cup as serving for dinner & supper. No crackers
but 1 slice whole wheat bread with lite butter. Oooops... margarine & 6
oz. skim milk. Makes a very comfortable meal with a lasting curb to the
'hungries'.
