apparently followed the diet very well. Too well. She turned orange.
She went to her doctor about it. He said don't eat so many carrots! :-)

Hahaha. As kids, our parents made us drink carrot juice (which I
personally liked a lot!).

We turned very orange from that. Our grandma is a doctor and her
opinion was that it was completely okay to be orange from carrots.
It dos however look funny.

But don't drink or smoke with that! (and who knows what else)

I figure it's the French escalating the war they began with "French
fries". They don't actually EAT that stuff, they just pretend they do so
stupid Americans will be fooled into eating it.

Actually, I've only ever heard of this in Quebec. Part of a long-term
plan to annex Maine, no doubt.

Let's pull this into a separate thread. I'm fascinated by the concepts of
the stuff people will actually put in their mouths. (Fascinated in the
same way as when I watch operations on TV or can't look away from a car
wreck.)

Good god yuck! New Jersey was bad enough with simple cheese fries.

I'll take my turn on border patrol but I'll need backup! Jenn? Amy??

Any kind of canned pasta

funnel cakes (pan-fried batter drizzled through a funnel into hot lard)

deep-fried pierogies ("pouches of pasta wrapped around mashed potatoes and
cheese)

sausage gravy over biscuits (please don't make me describe it!)

scrapple (stuff swept off the butcher's floor mixed with cornmeal, formed
into loaves, sliced and fried--often served with maple syrup)

head cheese (I didn't ask, didn't WANT to know)

blood bologna

I don't need you to: my mother makes it and my husband, to my horror,
loves it, so she makes it every time we go to visit. He knows better than
to try this one at home.

OMG, that's just horrible!

This one I know: I don't think it ought to be legal after the discovery of
prions.

blood bologna

Sometimes you've just got to give people credit for ingenuity fostered by
hunger. For example, I look at lobsters and wonder, "who was hungry
enough to try to eat this the first time?"

Negative calorie foods are a reality. True, I don't think an apple

Yes. Ones that don't provide energy aren't called "food".

Someone else noted that the FIRST bite might be "negative calorie", and
there's something to that concept: eat frequently and you raise your
metabolism due to the ongoing digestion. There's an element of truth in
there. But it doesn't extend out to mean "eat as much as you want and
lose weight."

If I ate my cotton
shirt right now, do you think my body would digest it using fewer
calories than it gets from the shirt itself?

I have no idea. But like your questions about "negative calories", that
question has no place in a serious discussion of how to lose fat and keep
it off.

Here's a homework assignment for you. Look up glycemic index and insulin
resistance. See if those won't be more helpful to you than "negative
calories" were. Oh, and while you're at it, look up the Cabbage Soup
Diet. I think that was premised on the "negative calorie" theory!

I hate to admit this, but I like scrapple...sliced thin, fried and served
with ketchup with eggs for breakfast. Haven't had it in years...my mother's
family is from Pennsylvania Dutch country and we always used to have it at
my grandmother's along with shoo fly pie which is truly wonderful.
However, the same culture that invented these two wonders also loves
something which does have my vote for the worst food ever...souse. I don't
even know if I spelled it right...but it is some kind of clear gelatin into
which is molded all sorts of gross organ meats, red somethings (peppers or
pimentos) and I think onion and cabbage. It just makes me ill thinking of
it. I used to get so grossed out as a kid watching the adults chow down on
it. I don't even know if it is high fat/low calorie or what...it is just
gross. Elise
