Default The Diet DOES lower Cholesterol

OK...been on the Atkins diet for a year and a half now...for YEARS I had
fairly high cholesterol...running anywhere from 280 to 310 (total)....we
tried diet, niacin and drugs (i.e. zocor)....nothing seemed to drop it below
the 280....BUT....the Atkins diet seems to be doing the trick...just had a
check the other day and these are the results:

Cholesterol: 225
Trigl: 94
HDL 65
LDL 141

OK...not perfect but best resuts in over ten years!

Actually, I disagree. I'm not a Dr, but my numbers are very close to
yours. Even though your overall number is slightly over the top, your
rather lofty HDL is a very good sign. The way me Dr explained it to
me, and he's the one to blame for my 40 lbs lost, no more knee/back
aches and constant acid reflux, having a slightly elevated overall
number with a high HDL is really not all that bad. Now, if your HDL
was at 29, and your overall at 225, then it's pretty bad.

Just my $.01 when adjusted for inflation....

The last blood test I had showed the same thing. There was a risk
factor number on it. It was the ratio of HDL to LDL. 141/65 = 2.17 I
believe that is a good ratio. (Although I spotted notes that said LDL
levels are not a predictor of problems for most women)

The LDL/HDL ratio related to average risk is 3.2 for women and 3.5 for
men. Ratios of 1 to 1.5 are correlated to half the normal risk of
coronary heart disease.

Hey Mark...thanks for your input, hadn't really looked at it that
way...BTW...I used to suffer from a lot of acid reflux too until I pretty
much gave up the carbs....when do I get heartburn/AR now?...when have a day
I decide to indulge in some carbs.
