Overweight?
I started a new thread, hope you don't mind. At five eleven and one six
eight pounds I know a lot of people have said that I'm not technically overweight. But aren't we always being told that these things are relative, and it's not how you look it's how you feel? Well I feel unhappy. At college I was a sportsman, amongst other things, talented all-rounder although not outstanding at anything. Not an ounce of fat, although by no means a beefcake. I took a 30 inch trouser. I'm still only 24 years old, but am suddenly a 34 waist, and have spent the last few years drinking too much. My legs and arms are not fatty, but there's a belly of noteable proportions and even some chest deposits. This I do not like. I row on a C2 rower, but think my diet is insufficient and know that I drink too much. I think, or at least I thought, that weight watchers might be a good way to ensure I wasn't eating too much and wasn't drinking too much and was eating a balanced range. I have some slight knee pain based around flat feet and therefore don't think I should be carrying any more than I have to. Plus which I'm vein, and don't like being the pot-bellied one on my sports team. So that's it really. That's why I wanted to loose weight. These things are personal aren't they, and I feel overweight for the kind of man I profess to be, even if the charts would say I'm not. Will. |

OK, no one's physically coming over to your residence and making you do anything. You don't *have* to justify yourself to me (or anyone else). Will, From your description it sounds like you would benefit more from weight training than weight loss. I must have missed the other thread so if this suggestion is redundant I apoligize. |

Dear Beefcake Will, (I like that name better than Fludge) :-) OK, lets get serious. WW may or may not help you. But its a start. Learnign about diet, nutrition, portion control, and serving sizes is really more important to you. Also learning your bodies limits is also important. And I'll say it again - Weight training... DO IT! Its awesome, you'll enjoy it, and its a hell of a good way to return to a good "beefcake" status, as well as allow you the indulgence of food and drinks on occassion and with limitation. We are here to help and support you. We are here to help you learn what you need to do. Basically WW boils down to calorie counting in a more simplified manner. But like al diets, it has its weak points. I've got a coworker who has failed on it many times. Why, because she reads that a slice of pizza is 8points. The thing is - that is for a single slice of a small (8"), thin crust, cheese only pizza. Not a slice from a large supreme thick crust. Big difference. You have to be honest with yourself to be successful in losing weight. Honesty is - alcohol is a calorically expensive food (calorie dense). Not to mention that the more you drink the more you are likely to eat, and most people turn to carb and fat dense foods while drinking. So, you end up packing in a ton of calories in a drinking fest. But hey - if this only happens 1 night a month or every few months, then ou can work with it. But if it happens a few times a week, you aren't going to lose weight. See - there's so much to discuss, so we will continue this as time goes on. But the help is here if you are ready. |
