I don't know whether to laugh, agree or roll my eyes.

Doctor Takes 'Personality' Diet Plan To Internet
Diet Identifies, Corrects Bad Eating Habits

UPDATED: 4:19 PM EDT August 23, 2004

CHICAGO -- A Chicago expert is taking his diet plan to the Web.

"The whole idea of using the Internet for weight control is still in its
infancy," said Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Dr. Robert Kushner.

He said there's no proof yet that online dieting is as good as meeting in
person with support groups or doctors, but television station WMAQ reported
that Kushner hopes his online plan will approach the success he's seen from
people who've followed his personality-type diet book.

"When people follow this approach for a year in a group setting, they're
losing on average about 5 percent, or 11 pounds," Kushner said.

Kushner's method identifies the bad habits that lead to overeating and
under-exercising. Those habits may be nighttime nibbling, not making time to
exercise or not being able to say, "No."

At 298 pounds, Christie Bernhardy took Kushner's questionnaire a year ago.
Among other things, she learned she was eating large portions.

"If it was put in front of me, I was eating it," she said. "And I'm not doing
that now."

Now, Bernhardy weighs 209 pounds. After failing during a lifetime of fad
diets, she can finally appreciate the simple truths of healthy eating.

"You move more, you eat less, the weight comes off," she said. "It's amazing!"

Kushner has information about the diet online at Diet.com, which offers a free
diet personality test to those who register.
