Obese people fight for rights
Submission made to Human Rights Commission arguing obese people should get
anti-discrimination rights 1 October 2003 A Wellington woman who is fighting discrimination against the obese says many jump to the conclusion that large people are lazy and eat junk food all day. Sarah Crutch has made a submission to the Human Rights Commission that obese people should get similar anti-discrimination rights to people with disabilities, homosexuals and minorities. Ms Crutch says there are many medical reasons for obesity but people assume that being fat is a character flaw. She says small seats at cinemas and tightly packed restaurants are a nightmare for larger people. Ms Crutch says while a discrimination law would not change attitudes overnight, it might make people think before they act. **** Further proof of NAAFA's hidden agenda. -- Steve º¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤º Steve Chaney Remove "Vegetus." to get my real email address See the soc.singles HALL OF STUPID: http://member.newsguy.com/~gunhed/hallofstupid "If only sheep could cook, we wouldn't need women at all! 8)" - Dizzy, Message-ID: "Outside of this group, I don't remember hearing anyone in RL say that fat people are worthless." - some anonymous coward admitting the truth, Message-ID: "I watched The Accused last night with Jodie Foster. Obese people fight for rights
Incorrect. that only applies to fat people who are not trying. to fat people
who instead of trying are trying to force acceptance of something repulsive onto people (YES I am fat and I think it is repulsive) Some of us FAT people realize IT IS A character flaw and are working to fix it. 35pounds so far gone and still counting. I mean, my husbands eats like a pig -- Nestle Quick chocolate milk, Haagen Daasz, Chips Ahoy, Peanut Butter M&Ms -- these are his staple foods and the man is 6 feet tall and 160 pounds. If I ate the way he does, I would weigh a zillion pounds, and not because of any character flaw either. I just haven't been blessed with his metabolism. He has the same craving for sweet yummies that most of us do -- and he gives into that craving -- is that a character flaw? If it is, he sure never hears about it, because he's a thin guy. 35pounds so far gone and still counting. Chris Taylor http://www.nerys.com/ "Daniel Andrews" wrote in message ... Ok I guess that depends on what you define the phrase "character flaw" to me
to me it means something in my character that is counterproductive to proper normal (not societal normal which is totally up in the air) Eating too much and not stopping the problem before I gained nearly 200 pounds to me is something in my character that is counterproductive to proper normal (not being fat) we must think it means two different things. I do not see character flaws as insults. I simply see them as problems requiring repair or correction. I no longer have this character flaw. I no longer gain weight or overeat. so I have corrected that flaw. now I must correct the damage this flaw has caused me (being fat) Sorry for the confusion Chris Taylor http://www.nerys.com/ "nimue" wrote in message ... ahh but it is not a character flaw in you. why ? because you do NOT eat like
that because you know and realize what would happen if you did and acted accordingly. I did not. I overate to the toll of 200 pounds above normal. I call that a flaw. maybe what you think of as a character flaw is different than how I think of it.
