No more shopping at Catherine's
Yesterday I was in a shopping center with a Catherine's store.
(Catherine's is a chain that carries large size upscale women's clothing.) I don't buy clothes at Catherine's a lot because the price of their clothing doesn't usually fit into my budget, but yesterday they were having a clearance on summer merchandize, and they had racks of clothes priced at $7.99/item. I found a beautiful XL long-sleeved knit cotton jersey, originally $44, reduced to $7.99. I asked to try it on because in the past I sometimes found XL's to be a bit snug and I'd have to get a 2X. I was very pleasantly stunned to find that the XL didn't fit...because...it was too big! Since XL is the smallest size Catherine's carries, looks like no more shopping at Catherine's for me, even when they're selling clothes at prices I can afford. Sometimes it seems to me that the scale isn't moving down very much (I've been in a stall for the last two weeks), but I have noticed that my current clothes are getting baggy. It's been a long time since my pants had a saggy seat. :-) And my "fattest" slacks, size 26, are way too big now. It's nice to see that kind of confirmation that I am, indeed, getting smaller. Great feeling, isn't it? I recently went into a BonWorth store to find a
t-shirt for a spaghetti-strap dress (it used to have one, but it is long-since gone.) I looked at the 1x size shirts and they looked too big, so I tried on a L and it was 'roomy.' Made my day!!! -- Linda 296/203/160 LC since Oct. 13, 2003 http://home.att.net/~lewis_linda/index.html "Nat TheBrat" wrote in message om... In article , says... Having recently sold some of my "fat clothes" on eBay, I think I'd snap up good quality clothes at prices like that just to resell :-) Actually, I DID buy something (at a thrift store) recently not to wear, but to sell. I love shopping at the end of the season for bargains on clothing. At the end of last winter, I was able to get some very nice clothes for myself, my DH, and my kids, some for as much as 90% off. Of course, I won't be buying too many things for myself right now, as I fully expect that I'll soon...what's the opposite of outgrow?....undershrink??...them as I continue to lose weight. I've bought some clothing from e-Bay myself, but I find it frustrating given the lack of standardization of sizing in the clothing industry. In the past, some 18s fit fine, while some 22s were too tight. I have the same problem shopping from a catalog. I need to try stuff on to be sure it fits. I was very pleasantly stunned to find that the XL didn't fit...because...it was too big! GREAT feeling, isn't it? Congratulations on your 25 lb loss in just a touch over 1 month -- that's AMAZING! I'm afraid that that 7/19/04 date in my sig is somewhat misleading, and I'm thinking that maybe I should just drop it, starting with this post. 7/19 is when I started South Beach. I've lost 14 pounds since then. Nothing to sniff at to be sure, and I'm thrilled I've lost that much, but.... I lost the other 11 of my 25 pounds before I started South Beach, using a, um, non-plan. I don't know when I started my non-plan diet. Several months, at least. I haven't lost any weight in the last two weeks, which I find frustrating. But, I know that if I stick to the plan my weight will start dropping again, especially since I'm starting to exercise more. And, my TOM should be here very shortly. At least I have the fact that my clothes seem to be going through a growth spurt to cheer me up during this stall. I started SB when several friends had such amazing success on it, and it seemed like such a sensible eating plan. I know I'm eating much healthier now on SB than I was before. Nat 254/229/140 |

I looked at the 1x size shirts and they looked too big, so I tried on a L and it was 'roomy.' Made my day!!! I remember how disoriented I felt the last time I lost significant weight (about 70 pounds, 30 on my own, 40 on WW), and the larger sizes were too big. I didn't know where to shop anymore, as some of the the stores I'd shopped in for umpteen years, didn't carry the smaller sizes I needed. And, even in the large department stores that carried a range of sizes, I didn't know what part of the store to shop in. It was like relocating to an unfamiliar city without actually moving. :-) But it was really nice to be able to have so many choice in clothing, and not just have to "settle" for something I really didn't like because it was the only remotely accpetable item in my size. sigh Since I still have quite a few nice items of clothes in sizes 20 down to 16, I should be able to do a significant amount of my clothing shopping in my closets and attic. Not too much is really out of style because I tend to stick to classic styles and only buy a few items of really trendy styles from time to time. The one thing, though, is that my body proportions are different now than they used to be the last time I was this weight. My waist is thicker, for instance. Nat 254/229/140 |

That's great!!! I got a lane Bryant coupon in the mail this week. I went
there and the size 14's either fit perfect or were big. I walked over 2 stores and bought the most beautiful wool crepe dress at Ann Taylor. I didn't care it was full price, all that mattered was that I fit into their size 16. I know it's psychological but I would rather be a Ann Taylor 16 than a 14 at a plus size store.
