Once when I was in grad school I had food poisoning for about three
days -- we also never figured out why, though a couple of other people
on campus (whom I didn't know) had it as well. The problem was, it
gave me a sort of mental aversion to food

Yes, I can remember getting sick (on either food poisoning or the plain old
flu) and never really being able to eat those foods again, or at least for a
long, long time! I wonder if that's something in our biological
programming -- designed to keep us from eating "poison" foods or anything
we've gotten sick from.

and for the next 3-4 weeks I
consumed nothing but Coca Cola -- which at least gave me some calories
and was the only thing that didn't make me feel ill when I thought
about it. I lost quite a bit of weight,

Sounds like you invented The Coca-Cola Diet -- maybe you could have been
their Jared. :-)

Yowza, Mary! How awful. I'm happy you feel better!

Thanks, Laurie -- feeling better as each day passes!

Mary

That's good to hear. It's a nasty thing to have to go through.

More people suffer from food poisoning than might be expected. If someone
says they have the *stomach flu*, ie, getting sick without a fever, the
culprit is probably food poisoning.
