Well, I currently don't eat a lot of vegetables or fruit myself; it's
mostly meat, eggs, and cheese for me right now, with maybe 3-4 servings
of green stuff a week. I do think green leafy vegetables are good for
you, but because of things I've got going on right now, it seems like
most of the veggies I buy go bad in the fridge before I get to them.

You know, I always like veggies but found them a pain to cook
sometimes so they would go bad. I recently bought a Tupperware
microwave veggie/meat steamer cooker. Just a cheap thing from the
mall. I use that thing all the time now! Get a nice halibut fillet,
or some chicken, and put it in the steamer along with a bunch of
broccoli, some cauliflower, a few mushrooms, some asparagus, and then
steam for maybe 6-8 minutes, depending. Tastes so good! I use a
little Bragg's liquid aminos on it, or maybe sometimes get fancy and
make some melted lemon butter, or put a dollop of mayo on the side and
"dip". Sometimes salt and pepper is just right, or chop up some fresh
herbs and sprinkle over it. I suppose a hollandaise would be nice on
it too, but I'm lazy to go through the torture of making that. I've
actually started cooking the meat first for a few minutes, otherwise
the veggies get pretty mooshy, but you kinda figure out the timing
once you do it for awhile. I have read in a couple places that it is
better to eat cruciferous veggies steamed than raw or cooked otherwise
- as your body absorbs their nutrients better, or something like
that. I go by taste and texture and there is nothing better than some
broccoli or cauliflower just cooked past al dente - mmmmm. This is a
great way to cook too because the prep is zil except for a little
chopping and the cleanup is also brainless. Also makes my shopping a
breeze - since my meals have so few ingredients.

Nope! That is me too)

I've also started avoiding food shipped from thousands of miles away,
within reason; and since I didn't have a garden this year to preserve
anything from, that limits the options this time of year too.

Oh yes. Local stuff is usally much fresher but, like you, I tend to forget
it and it can go off, so I have stopped buying it much.

I recently had the opportunity to have five days without having to make food
for anyone but me. That is now continuing for the forseeable future

I have got into a routine. For breakfast I have lots of bacon, an egg and
coffee with double cream.
I take the cream to work too and have it in my coffee during the day. For
lunch I take meat or cheese. In the evenings I just can't be bothered to
cook for myself, so I have soup and then some oatcakes and cheese. I have
some fruit sometimes, strawberries or the odd pear.

I am sure I will get told off about the oatcakes, but I love them and I
don't think I am having too many carbs.

Saturday and Sunday I eat with my SO. I have meat and veggies along with
him.

We rarely see pumpkins and then only at Halloween. It is not something I
have eaten.

many thanks for your input)

Give that some carbs must be eaten, what and when, are best please?

I have simplified things - I don't need to count carbs, I just eat
eggs, animal flesh, and green veggies for the most part (lettuces,
broccoli, oh and some cauliflower). I have found that naturally I
crave the veggies along with the meat and eggs, but I never seem to
eat over the carb limit of them. I checked quite few times later in
the evening with fitday, and I am always below 20. I try to have some
eggs and meat for breakfast, some meat and veggies for lunch, and some
meat/fish/chicken with veggies plus a nice big salad for dinner. I'm
always full after that kind of daily menu. It works for me, because I
need something simple. Once in a while I'll throw extra things in,
but I try to keep things the same, to "demystify" the meaning of food
in my life. I want food to be what gives me my energy, and not for it
to be a crutch to hide from my emotions.

Simple is good)) I know exactly where you are coming from I am trying
to do my own thing in a simple way too.

Thanks Tom)

Thanks for the idea! I usually steam my vegetables, but I never thought
of simplifying the process by putting the fish in there with them. I
don't suppose that would work so well with a pork chop; too bad.

Well, just count the carbs. If weight loss stalls or you're fighting
cravings all the time, the grain would be the first culprit I'd look at;
but if things are going well, don't worry about it. Make sure you know
how many carbs you're getting from that pear, too; they're a fairly
carby fruit.

You love oatcakes? In the same way you love your SO?

It's not good to be lovin on food. Loving food will get you in trouble
everytime. For one thing, your SO will be jealous. I don't blame him,
either.

Cut the cakes.
