Default Anyone else having more headaches

Hi,
I've been doing the LC thing for almost a month. I've noticed that I'm
having more headaches than I ever did before and am wondering if it's a way
of eating thing or if I need my eyes checked! I try to keep my carbs around
25/ day occassionally I may do 30.
Is anyone else having an increase in headaches?
Thanks!

Exact opposite -- I had headaches almost every day before lowcarbing,
and usually get a headache the day after a cheat. I rarely get headaches
while lowcarbing.

Perhaps you're not drinking enough (dehydration headaches), or are consuming
something to which you have an allergy or sensitivity. Some people get
headaches from aspartame.

Thanks Jamie,
I don't do aspertame so I know that isn't it. I do lots of water, but that
might be a place for me to start! I'll do more. I have more energy over all
and don't plan to stop, but never had headaches before and don't care to
continue!!
Thanks for your input!

Priscilla,
Do you wear glasses? If I don't change my Rx about every 1-1/2 years, I
start getting daily headaches. My mother gets migraine headaches and I
believe I inherited this special treat to some extent in that I have an
ongoing Rx for Motrin 800mg which is the only thing that makes it go away
for me. Reading your post, however, has made me realize that the frequency
of my headaches since starting LC at the end of August has greatly
decreased.

As part of low-carb, are you also cutting out caffeine? Some people do,
though I've found it doesn't seem to hurt me, and you can get headaches
from caffeine withdrawal.

I had the typical "induction flu" headache when I first started low-carbing,
and then it went away. However, after a while it came back, and just never
really went away. Ketones dilate blood vessels in the head (like caffeine
withdrawal), and in some people, this can cause chronic headaches. Reducing
your blood level of ketones should eliminate this. Make sure you get enough
water, and if you are still experiencing headaches, try increasing your carb
intake by 10-15g/day, or until the headaches go away. You will still be in
ketosis (up to about 100g/day), though at about 40-60g/day, most people will
no longer show measurable ketones in their urine. The diet still works,
though, and no more headaches!

Make sure you don't go more than 6 hours without eating something.
Sometimes I'll get a "whomping" headache if I let my blood sugar drop
too low. Hope you find the cause -- and be proud of the 17 pounds
you've lost in a month for heavens sake!! That's nothing to sneeze
at. The rest will go.

I wonder also how much cheese of the hard type you are eating, sometimes
folks develop a sensitivity to the l-Tyramine in aged cheeses.

are you eating nuts? when i first started LC, my migraines became
fewer and fewer, because most of the triggers arent eaten on the
WOE.However i began to notice every time i ate pistachios i got a
headache. i had a food trigger (allergy) for the migraine. are you
eating the same thing and then within 24 hours getting a headache? Now
the only time i get them is when i go to long between meals. ie i get
busy and then realise 8 hours has went by.... and then its to late im
gona have the headache even after eating. Which never happened before
LC hope this helps you. ! ifrog

Priscilla,

Have you considered a multi-vitamin? I too was getting intense headaches. I
attributed it at first to stopping the coffee intake, but they persisted.
After I started taking a daily vitamin, they went away. Now I take an Omega
3-6-9 to boot.

I noted the (STILL) in your measurements. Don't be discouraged -- take your
measurements! I stopped losing weight but due to the increase in energy, I
exercised a LOT this summer, therefore gaining lots of muscle weight.
