Importance of fiber?
I watched part of a PBS show on the importance of eating at least 35
grams of fiber each day for health and weight loss reasons. The female presenter was kind of off-putting and obviously trying to sell her book and fiber products. But eating a lot of fiber seemed to make a lot of sense. The foods with the highest amount of fiber were beans and whole grain cereals, which I avoided for years as a low-carber. I am tempted to try a high fiber diet for a while but am a bit worried because my blood sugar is borderline. My doctor said that I wouldn't have to worry about diabetes and cholesterol if I lost 20 pounds. My thinking is that if a high fiber diet helps me to lose the 20 pounds, it is worth the risk. fyi I also walk 10k steps a day and play 4 hours of tennis a week, and am a 62 yo male. |

If your blood sugar is borderline, you need to be very careful but what about adding more fiber weekly to see how much you can tolerate? I've increased the amount of fiber I eat daily just by switching the type of bread I eat and doing a few vegetarian bean soups as main courses. Audrey |

the higher fiber also digest slower so you naturally eat less over all
because you don't get hungry as fast, YMMV, Lee tenplay wrote in message ... Importance of fiber?
How does fiber affect blood sugar? Does the risk apply to things like
metamuscil? What's a good place to buy an adequate pedometer? "ahmward" wrote in message . .. "tenplay" wrote in message ... Importance of fiber?
I've had a few pedometers and finally found one that works and stays put
thanks to a small retention line...It's the Omron HJ-112...I think it was $18...It has steps, miles Aerobic steps and calories which I don't bother with...Easy to read also...I believe I read somewhere that the main ingredient in Metamucil can help blood sugars but don't quote me...Good luck...I never leave home without my pedometer...Great tool...GG "AKA gray asphalt" wrote in message ... and for diabetes, slow digestion is always a good thing, keeping your blood
sugars more regular, rather than a sudden spike... but quick question, someone else asked earlier... does this also include things like metamucil, or other fiber suppliments? Metamucil will help with digestion and constipation. I don't know if it will
help keep the blood sugar levels even. There are also minimal nutriants in Metamucil so you probably would be better off increasing your fiber through fruits, veggies, etc. "Drachen" wrote in message ... and for diabetes, slow digestion is always a good thing, keeping your blood sugars more regular, rather than a sudden spike... but quick question, someone else asked earlier... does this also include things like metamucil, or other fiber suppliments? I am honestly not sure as I rarely have need for those items, I can tell you
that my brother is using it partly for the real issue but the doctor warmed him to monitor even more closely than usual until he sees how it affects him, Lee Drachen wrote in message ... and for diabetes, slow digestion is always a good thing, keeping your blood sugars more regular, rather than a sudden spike... but quick question, someone else asked earlier... does this also include things like metamucil, or other fiber suppliments?
