Your Fav cereal?
Eating breakfast is a reality in my new world and I have been trying to
eat cereal with skim milk, soy milk or fat free yogurt every morning. I started out with Special K ( seemed too weak and white flour-like), then moved to Raisin Bran but lately have been looking for some serious fiber rich 'high octane fuel' cereal. Got a couple of boxes of 100% Bran but it is tough just eating it straight up. Nothing too sweet preferred (except with plain yogurt) what are your favorites or do you do a combo? Do you add in things?? Anything especially good with yogurt? What about hot cereals? Thoughts anyone D |

It's not bad in terms of calories, I believe it's 110 for 3/4 cup. Sugar is a bit high (11 grams per serving), but since I don't have it all the time, it's not a big problem. In terms of hot breakfast items, I love oatmeal. I've been eating Quaker Oats Weight Control cinnamon oatmeal for months and it's really good. |

Do you add in things?? Anything especially good with yogurt? What about hot cereals? Thoughts anyone D I'm not sure if 100% Bran is an actual cereal name or not, but I LOVE All Bran. There's even an All Bran Extra Fiber. Recently I've also bought the Trader Joe's version of it, which has somewhat less bran and more calories than All Bran. Those cereals go great in yogurt - just as good as granola with less fat & calories. Add some fresh fruit and you've got a delicious low calorie, high fiber, high calcium meal. I usually buy plain, fat free yogurt. I add one packet of Equal and a few drops of vanilla extract. I don't buy the already flavored artificially sweetened yogurt because it's always too sweet. A packet or less is perfect for me. On the mornings when I have cereal (with milk or yogurt) I usually also cook up a couple servings of Egg Beaters for extra protein. A cup of yogurt, some cereal, fresh strawberries and 2 Egg Beaters comes in at under 300 calories. Other cereal that I like (with milk) are Kashi Good Friends Cinna-Raisin-Crunch and Nature's Path Optimum Power Breakfast with Blueberries, Flax & Soy Kashi: 1 cup 170 calories 1.5g fat 41g carb 8g fiber (7g insoluble, 1g soluble) Nature's path: 1 cup 190 calories 2.5g fat 40g carb 10g fiber Higher calorie count than the All Bran type of cereals but they are both very tasty, and one serving paired with Egg Beaters keeps me happy. -- Liz HW/CW/GW 268/154.2/140 |

When I have cereal (as opposed to my poached eggs :-) ) I usually
combine All Bran (I like the Bran Buds, but use regular and Extra Fiber as well -- whatever I can find at the grocery) with another cereal. For the other, I like one of the things with fruits and nuts like Great Grains or some sort of low fat granola -- I try different stuff all the time. To this I add a scoop of protein powder. Thoughts anyone D My local market started carrying a line of Quaker Essentials cereals, I bought a box of "Crunchy Corn Bran" 90 cal for 3/4c serving which after I subtract the 5g fiber is 80 cal plus 2g protein. Tastes similiar to Cheerios but in a large square size to munch vs 1 cheerio |

Definitely. I have my eggs on a piece of whole wheat toast with some
melted fat-free cheese. I'll have to try them with cottage cheese sometime. Chris 262/130s/130s |

But I take a fiber supplement because otherwise I don't get a normal amount from food alone. Andy |

This gives me a good ratio of carbs/protein/fat to start the day. It's also something I can keep at the office. At home I may opt for poached eggs and whole wheat toast. Someday I'll have to try adding some f/f cheese to try Chris's version of this dish. Beverly |

Thoughts anyone D I eat Fiber One cereal with yogurt and fruit or with chocolate soy milk and fruit when I want cold cereal. Most mornings I eat a bowl of oatmeal (oat groats I prepare on the weekends) with protein powder, splenda, and raisins or berries. As far as my favorite cereal - Cinnamon Life, but I never touch the stuff anymore. -- the volleyballchick |

why not just eat yogurt with 100% bran added to it?
