No Fruit For Me
I had strawberries twice within the past week, at bedtime, and had
respectable (not great, but respectable) BGs in the morning. This morning, I had my 5 carbs' worth of strawberries and checked my BG 1-1/2 hours later, and it had zoomed up 63 points! Well, I can always eat zero-carb, fruit-flavored gelatin. Do other type 2 diabetics find it impossible to eat fruit? Thanks! Carol -- "Years ago my mother used to say to me... She'd say 'In this world Elwood, you must be oh-so smart or oh-so pleasant.' Well, for years I was smart.... I recommend pleasant. You may quote me." *James Stewart* in the 1950 movie, _Harvey_ |

Maybe your BG went low and your liver compensated 63 points worth? Priscilla |

Other factors can be stress, hormonal cycle in women, infection, fever, other illness, certain medications.... lots of stuff. Priscill |

No Fruit For Me
You may be able to eat fruit... but not in the morning.
We're at our most insulin resistant in the morning. Try strawberries at lunch or for an after dinner snack. Maybe your BG went low and your liver compensated 63 points worth? I wish! LOL! I routinely eat 2-3 carbs per meal. I want to see about increasing my Metformin or something. I spike with very few carbs in my system. Thanks, Priscilla! Carol -- "Years ago my mother used to say to me... She'd say 'In this world Elwood, you must be oh-so smart or oh-so pleasant.' Although I'm easily satisfied with gelatin for my fruit fix, it would be nice to have the real thing from time to time. Carol -- "Years ago my mother used to say to me... I doubt that I went low because my fasting BG was 137, and an hour and a half and five small, frozen strawberries later, was 190. Carol -- "Years ago my mother used to say to me... Do other type 2 diabetics find it impossible to eat fruit? Thanks! Carol Hi Carol. As an experiment have a wedge of cheddar or other cheese along with your serving of fruit. For instance have an ounce of cheddar with your strawberries as a bedtime snack and check waking BG and check again before eating breakfast. With your morning strawberries have a half cup of plain unsweetened yogurt or kefir. The idea being to see if the protein with fruit helps keep the BG closer to where you want it to be. Later.
