Ann,
Too much iron in your blood isn't a good thing. Please treat this seriously. What does your doctor say? What have years' past levels shown? Not to be alarmist but.... There is a disease called Hemochromatosis characterized by too much iron built up in the body. The treatment is regularly "giving blood". However, if the disease is not treated in a timely fashion it can be debilitating. I have a relative with the disease and he found out very late. http://my.webmd.com/hw/health_guide_atoz/hw180390.asp?lastselectedguid={5FE84E90-BC77-4056-A91C-9531713CA348} Regardless of what it is, it's very important for you to follow up *dilligently* with your doctor. When I used to cook in a cast iron frying pan a lot, my blood would always sink like a stone in the iron test they give you before you donate blood. About 1 in 200 people, especially those of northern European descent, have a genetic predisposition to store too much iron. This is called hemochromatosis, and the excess iron must be removed by removing blood like a blood donation, fairly frequently. -- jamie ) "There's a seeker born every minute." |

Also, there are some studies indicating a correlation between iron levels in the blood and heart disease. So, if you do have high iron, blood donation is good. -- Bob in CT Remove ".x" to reply |
