We're headed on an 8 day road trip this October, from NJ to FL with stops along
the way. I'm looking for some snack ideas, since I don't have a fridge in the
car (!), cheese and anything perishable is a no-no. I'm thinking nuts, maybe
some peanut butter, and my usual frankensnack per day, any other suggestions?

big tub of lard

Hmm, doesn't sound too practical, Billy. The lard would tend to
melt in a hot car, and it's not too appetizing to eat just by itself.
Though since you're always such a kind and supportive person, perhaps
we should reconsider your advice. Do you eat your lard by the handful
like yo' mama?

if you don't want to get your new car all dirty inside, don't snack, or if
you must, snack at a pit stop.

We don't eat "real food" in the car, never have. Just snacks (and NO powdered
donuts {for my husband} allowed!!).

Do you eat more than every 3 hours when you're not in the car?

Sometimes.....but I tend to get hungry while driving - I know, it's a "head"
thing that I'm not ready to deal with, so I want to make sure I eat "legal"
snacks when I feel the urge!!

Yeah, take a small cooler and buy some cheese each day. High fat foods last
longer before going bad even without refrigeration. Many cheese stores leave
them out all day. Small cans of tuna with plastic utensils are easy and
disposable.

Hey Susan! I had to laugh at your suggestions - stinky cheese and tuna fish!!
While I love both, maybe it would be best if I ate them AT the rest stop

We have one of those Playmates coolers with the swivel top/handle. I think I'll
try that with the frozen water bottles to start, then refill it with ice in
freezer ziploc bags while we're on the road. It's not like I need a ton of
snacks, just enough to keep me from munching on my hubby's potato chips!!
