Default MAJOR Problems When Eating ANY Carbs

Hi,

I hope someone can help me with a problem, I'll be as delicate as I
can discussing it.

I went on low-carb in late February of this year. Combined with
workouts, it worked VERY well and by April, I had hit my goal weight.
I have been toning since and although my weight may go up a pound of
two, dropping my carb intake (which is never much over 100 carbs at
the most) usually causes the extra weight to drop off rapidly. I have
maintained my current weight since April and am doing well.

Low carb worked better than any other weight loss plan I tried and I
am happy with it. BUT, in that lies a problem I have never had with
any other diet or eating plans.

Even while I maintain my weight, if I eat any "carb food" even in
small amount.. I have to run to the bathroom within an hour! Even if I
have a piece of bread with dinner on the weekend or treat myself to
some ice cream out once a week.. WHAM, it "goes right through me".

I get a light gassy feeling and I know it means I'm headed to the
bathroom soon. Once I leave the bathroom, I feel fine but let's just
say that's because all my carbs left me!

The only way I have found to stop this is to take medication like
pepto bismol in advance of carbs to try and stop this from happening.
If not, carbs go in and go out. It's embarassing, it can happen when
traveling, etc.

I am maintaining my weight. I eat low carb 80% of the week but I would
like to enjoy a treat every now and then, an italian meal (not huge)
something! I can't stay under 100 carbs a day every day forever. I
don't need to, I don't want to. I have lost my weight and I know I
can drop back down in carbs and loose anything I may gain from a
"cheap meal" so I am happy but my stomach can't handle it.

Anyone else have this happen? No other weight loss program I have used
has lead to my body being unable to tollerate my straying from the
program. Low carb works great, but I feel like I'm in prison and I
don't want to be popping pills for the rest of my life whenever I want
to eat something that isn't low-carb.

Any advice? I'm tired of this and can't seem to find a way to stop
it.

I'm not sure what to say... maybe your "splurges" should be more along the
lines of complex carbs, fruits, or low-carb ice cream/treats, etc. Maybe
you could acclimate your body to refined stuff if you started eating them
more frequently, but why do that? Maybe you have some sort of food
intolerance or allergy?

I can't eat sugar or refined starches in the smallest quantity. It doesn't
bother me since (like yourself) they tend to make me ill. I am on
maintenance, btw, and my "treats" are legumes (beans, peas, peanuts...).
I've tried the whole grain route and they simply don't agree with me. I'm
almost certain my situation is due to an intolerance.

Have you thought about the possibility that you have a food allergy or
intolerance? Do you have these symptoms if you eat higher carbs in the form
of plain fruits and vegetables?

It does sound like coeliac ( gluten allergy.) Try eating rice. If that
causes the same problem, then it's not gluten allergy.
