How old are you, Eddie? And where do you live?

One nice thing about text messaging like this (and I know there are bad
things too!) is that you can communicate directly with a person, without
preconceptions based on things like age, race and weight to filter through.
Even sex. I thought Chris was a guy for a long time.

For example, I can see your weight is 294 lb, which is, objectively speaking
quite large (though you have lost an enormous amount so far). But your
messages don't sound like they are from an obese person. They sound like
they are from an active, healthy, enthusiastic, young person. In other
words, I am hearing from the inner Eddie - and the one you are shaping up
into!

I know a lot of June people... One other person I work with is also June 3.
Two of my best friends in Japan are June 16 and June 30.

Of course they are all thin, so there is no relevant pattern here.

Yesterday I finished 300 days since starting my diet last June 3rd. That's
300 days without going off my diet even one time!

This morning's weight was 93.8 kg (down 0.8 kg / 1.8 lb from last week) -
which is a total so far of minus 31.2 kg = minus 68.6 lb.

I'll do my usual weekly report tomorrow, on Friday, but just wanted to
note
the 300 day milestone. Especially if the scale ticks up again tomorrow
like
it seems to every Friday morning lately!

AMAZING! Do you realize how cool that is!! Well I am sure that your
body does!
I probably started about the same time but haven't had quite your
level
of success but hoping to kick it up a notch here soon. I think I have
probably had more good food days than bad food days and that alone is
a
miracle.

So how bout a few 'secrets of your success'? What do you think
really
help you come so far??

More good days than bad is an accomplishment in itself.
Congratulations!

For me it's always all one or the other. In the past, falling off the
wagon
meant it was gone, over, done with.... I've never been the type who
can
"just go off my diet for one day". It would definitely creep into
multiple
days, then weeks, then months then 10 years from now you would see
notes
from me saying how I'm going to start my diet again.

This diet was a birthday present to myself on my 49th birthday. I
wanted to
get down to a normal weight, if not full goal, before I turned 50!

Note that I intentionally did not start the day *after* my birthday so
I
could splurge on my birthday. I intentionally started on my birthday
to
reinforce the idea that eating healthy has to become a new way of life
and
that while each year is riddled with special occasions the way of
dealing
with all the occasions is the same - find a way to enjoy them without
overeating.

I do have some days where it is easier than other days. Some days it
seems
like the day goes by quickly and I haven't eaten that much and I don't
really think about food so much. Other days I just get the munchies
and
can't stop eating. When that happens I just make sure to snack out on
low
calorie things - fat-free 100 calorie bags of popcorn, fruits, some
very
thin slices of ham (just 100 calories a pack), some edamame, etc.
Eventually
my hunger comes under control again. If you are truly hungry it is
always
best to eat something rather than letting your hunger grow into a KFC
attack.

Doing a few hundred calories per day of some regular exercise also
helps.

Somehow I just needed to get out of a certain "gluttony mindset" that
I've
always been in and try to get used to being satisfied with "normal
human
portions". I do find that if I wait long enough after eating a
normally-sized meal that I do, in fact, get satisfied. I try to keep
that in
mind.

doug

June 3rd will be a big celebration for you. My birthday is four days
later.
Congratulations on your success. It is the best present you can give
yourself.

Audrey
