Default Exercise while traveling

So I've been on a good track the past few weeks... been going to the gym 6
of 7 days. This is good - I'd been seriously slacking for a while, and I'm
glad to get back in the swing of exercise.

But... I'm going on vacation for a week. Hopping around between a few
friend's places, so I don't think there will be any opportunity for me to
use any gym-like facilities. Because I'm hopping around so much, I want to
travel as lightly as possible - so I can't bring much in the way of
equipment. I like to run, but my knees are pretty bad - running more than
once in a great while aggravates them something fierce. So I could probably
get away with running 1 day, but that still leaves me 6 to figure out.

I could walk - and probably will if I can't think of anything better. But
it'd take an awful lot of walking to make up for the calorie deficit I
usually get by doing 50 minutes of CV.

I know it's just a week... but since I've just gotten into the pattern... I
don't want to break it so soon since it's not ingrained yet. Does anyone
have any suggestions?

Some type of resistance bands should be easy to pack. Will any of your
friends have some exercise equipment available? Maybe some weights, videos,
etc?

Walking is a great exercise.

Megan:

My BF and I have been in other cities and called around and got day passes
to various gyms. It was kind of neat being in different gyms seeing how
they do things differently.

Also, I don't know what gym you belong to but YMCA memberships are good at
all Y's.

When I travel, I try to get a place with an exercise room or a pool, though
with the bumpkin places I end up that's not always possible. I pack
therabands ( $10) and try to do a lot of yoga. I have some workout routines
that I set up for times like these. Some hotels have VCR's you can
borrow/rent if you have an exercise tape you like. I'm lucky that I drive
to most places so I can pack my tiny VCR, mats and dumbells, but that would
be a problem when flying
I walk as often and briskly as possible - even if it means going to the mall
and doing laps. Usually I just get up extra early in the AM. It gives me a
chance to do some sightseeing & exploring without the crowds. Now that I'm
running, I'll try to run, but if you can't run - don't. Also, if the hotel
doesn't have any equipment, see if a local health club can offer a 1 week
membership. I belong to Curves which allows me to work out at any other
Curves in the world.

Hope this helps.
